I'd rather finish fifth than win the NAB Cup. A real finals appearance is worth a lot more in terms of experience than a NAB Cup final, and given you finished dead last I'm guessing any confidence you gained probably didn't last terribly long.

The Pies beat West Coast, Sydney and your boys incidentally.
Actually, IIRC, the year we won the Wizard Cup you finished just above us in 15th position and we beat you quite convincingly in Round 20

Yes, but my point is that the alleged confidence didn't appear to do you any good. You finished last in both years, whereas at least the Pies managed to get from 15th to 5th without performing all that well in the Who Cares Cup in either year.

Definitely depends on the team.

I dare say Kanagroos would prefer the prize money and membership boost winning the NAB cup can offer.

On the flip side, Adelaide, Collingwood etc would be more concerned with securing 4 points as they're more solid then Ed after a Collingwood goal.

Right now there are less teams struggling off field then are going along nicely, so if I had to vote on majority rule then I'd vote a round 1 win. But considering I support a team that can use the money and shot in the arm from memberships, I would say winning the NAB cup and have voted accordingly.

At that time it did. Yes we had a poor season but at least we got some reward that year.

NAB cup win is worth $250,000 directly. Or is it $200,000? Either way when you combine that with the boost in memberships you're looking at $300,000 - $400,000 gain for your club. Can't see how you'd go past that.

However, If you're in a position where 1 game in the home and away season might be the difference between top 4 or top 2 then you probably don't really need the money that badly anyway. So I guess it depends

Depends on who you're playing - I mean, if you were playing a really good team in Rd 1 on the road, then you probably wouldn't mind losing, but if you were playing Carlton at home, then you'd probably want to win that one.

We play Adelaide in Adelaide, so I would take the NAB cup. Plus when we win the Premiership we will get the $1 million bonus:rolleyes:

NAB Cup. Then all those loosers cant laugh at our so called empty trophy cabinet!!!!
even the preseason derby win would be even better than round 1.
You wont be saying that at the end of the year when one or two wins can make a big difference. Who cares about the pre season derby. An NAB cup win which doesnt translate into a Premiership win is a failure this year for Freo. H & A Points any day.

Ask Carlton what winning the NAB cup GF means.
Absolutely nothing......

If we 'don't" beat Richmond in round 1.....

All the hard pre season work will be for nothing,we have primed ourselves for round 1 not the NAB cup,the NAB cup was merely a "small" bonus on our way to a more successful year in 2007......

After round 1,we play for a win in round 2,then round 3....etc etc....:thumbsu:

Try telling Melbourne supporters an NAB cup premiership is worth more than a round 1 win. The dees lost round 1 of 2006 to Carlton, and after 22 rounds missed out on the top 4 by one win. Top 4 secures at least a home semi-final and a possible home preliminary final.

NAB cup secures a handful of cash, and a sense of confidence under false pretenses.. I know what id rather have
