Not sure why Mackenzies kicking is a talking point, he's a decent kick. Sure he kicks the odd lazy kick of one step every now and again but beyond that his kicking is fine, certainly better than Glass (who doesn't make those mistakes, mostly because of experience and dicipline).

Waters disposal has looked a lot better this preseason, lower and sharper. A.Selwood on the other hand was shocking by foot last weekend.

A.Selwood and Waters are being played because of the defensive aspect of their games and with Schofield and McGinity we won't be deviod of a pace. Id still prefer to be short one of Butler, Waters and A.Selwood, medium paced 187-189cm back flankers. A.Selwoods utility as a negative midfielder is his saving grace, for now.

No doubt. I was hoping he would play but rotations are an essential thing and Lycett is probably a little unlucky to play just the one game.

Rotations will be interesting. Because of our zone we generally hold one of our ruckmen back, behind the play. We will at stages be kicking to two 200+cm Ruckmen, potentially three.

That explains it more. Thanks for enlightening me. The Butler interview wasn't too horrendous given that it's true that some players with recurrent injuries like OP fall into the shadows.

A Selwood and Waters are seasoned "true season" AFL players. Although the signs from Wilson, Brennan and Stevenson have been great, they were NAB cup games. Intensity rises in the season proper, and the aforementioned premiership players can stand up to it.

Having said that, as a fan I'd hope that some of these senior guys have been spending more time on kicking efficiency drills (given their already established strength and game conditioning). Even if for no other reason than to keep up with premiership favourites, and well-regarded AFL trendsetters, Clarkson's Hawks.

Sure, we all know Butts is an gun defender and 95% of us believe he's best 18 every day of the week, but he did only play 13 games last season. From the outside, it's not as obvious how valued he is.

I'd say it's a mixture of wanting to limit the game time of Cox and Naitanui as well as being somewhat of a replacement for lynch n Kennedy.

Btw, if we win do we get a cup next to our name on here like the geelong supporters do?

Not precious, just get annoyed a lack of media attention (the positive sort) in Vic really and then when something comes up it's of this quality. It just seemed like a pretty ignorant person was asking questions.

Of course if his body packs it in there's a chance the club would cut him, but when he is fit he's best 18, it's been that way since 2006.

Preview: Crows vs Eagles

The Eagles have been imposing so far in the NAB Cup. They recorded impressive victories over Essendon and Fremantle in the opening round and followed up with a narrow win over Port Adelaide. The 2011 preliminary finalists clicked up another gear last Saturday night with a 33-point win in the heat at Patersons Stadium against a full-strength St Kilda. The Crows are also undefeated. They opened their campaign with close wins over Carlton and Port Adelaide before crushing Brisbane Lions by 51 points in their first four-quarter affair. Brenton Sanderson's men made a statement to the footy world last Friday with a 77-point demolition of Collingwood.
Neither team has a great night series premiership record. Adelaide has played in five previous grand finals for just one win, in 2003 over Collingwood. While West Coast has played in only one previous grand final, against Carlton in 2005, and was beaten.

The Crows seem to move the ball much faster under Brenton Sanderson and with Kurt Tippett and Jason Porpplyzia fit and firing in the forward line they are a dangerous side when on song. However the Eagles have their own dynamic duo with Dean Cox and Nic Naitanui, viewed as the AFL's best ruck duo back, in the same team. John Worsfold's side should also win the midfield battle considering Daniel Kerr has been in damaging form and is building nicely for the season proper. Sanderson will be aiming to be the first first-season coach to win the night series competition since Sydney Swans' Ricky Quade in 1982 but the Eagles' are in seriously good form and should win by five goals.
