Though it wasn't our best available side.I'm not one to subscribe to the "we'll get it right in rd 1" caper.
Good, talented teams win by default - even when not trying. Losing to Port with our best available side is a worry for me.
The NAB cup isn't the definitive guide to the season-proper, but people ignoring that it is an indicator are in dream land. Sure Carlton won the NAB cup and also the spoon - that appears to be an outlier as opposed to the norm. Holding onto that argument is like saying running behind all your opponents hoping they fall over is a sure way to win Olympic gold.
I was happy with week one, comfortable with week two, but disappointed strongly in the weekend gone. We should be getting fine tuned, not making sloppy mistakes nor losing to a team like port late in the pre-season.

I to am a little worried about our midfield, but Kerr, NN, Masten and Wellingham is a big list of outs for the middle.
All best 22 and despite my more modest valuations of Wellingham, all fairly dynamic players.
All 4 provide a lot of stoppage class and grunt.

I'm more than a little worried. Embley has to be doubtful as well. Even in the unlikely scenario that Kerr and NN are medically fit for Rd.1 they'll be totally underdone. A derby is not the type of game for underdone players. Waters is another in that category, though obviously not a midfielder.
Both of them are medically fit now, and have been building miles in the legs with limited skills work and Worsfold has been adamant that's it's a matter of them getting through full training work for two straight weeks.
From what we've been told Naita and Kerr have been running pretty hard, and we don't seem keen to rush their return either.
If they're playing in round 1, I'm confident that they're fully fit.
I'm not sure why Waters is a problem. He played on the weekend, seemed to get by without hurting himself. I'm going to assume he'll be okay for round 1.
Forgive the intrusion. A player can be "fully fit" but this does not mean that they are "match fit". Far from it. Being match fit requires extended and consecutive periods of real contested game time. With this being a derby and all, it seem to be very dangerous to bring in a player that has not been building real match time for many weeks.
Are you actually being serious? One thing i noticed before the game was how the commentators ( very impressed with Jacob Surjans commentating too) is that they were impressed at how they were out there training for quite a long time before the game. I think this would factor in the how they looked sloppy in the 2nd 1/4 as they looked very tired.
I agree. Freo should defs leave out Pavlich, who fits your description. Thanks.Forgive the intrusion. A player can be "fully fit" but this does not mean that they are "match fit". Far from it. Ok, Not knocking your opinion at all but I thought it was horrible, wanted to cut my ears off with a rusty cheese grater.Yeah for a first go at it i thought he was very and good and knew his stuff.
I think you are being overly harsh with the Port game.I'm not one to subscribe to the "we'll get it right in rd 1" caper.

We lost Masten and were a player down before the game started, then lost McGinnity before half time. Add this to a game played in high temps and self confessed heavy training loads and I think the performance was ok.
Or, we started the game well. Dropped off in the middle when Port were able to rotate players far more heavily than we were able to (being two down). Then finished the game strongly when our far superior fitness levels showed against a less experienced team (even despite being players down). The loss of Masten and McGinnity would explain a last quarter fade out, it doesn't explain falling behind at the start of a match when energy levels are less of an issue.
For what reason? His voice? If you're willing to discount the obvious insight and wealth of football knowledge he was adding to the call of the game then that's your prerogative. Given the amount of crap that is spewed on radio and television it was refreshing to listen to a player recently out of the game who understood concepts and could adequately describe them to the average supporter.Jacob Surjan, I knew he grew up as an Eagle's supporter, but that commentary wanted me to excommunicate him from ever being able to call or see an Eagles game again.
Ive got a feeling that we are going to lose to Fremantle by 45 points or thereabouts
