NAB Cup Round 3 - Team's out...

Re: Team's out...

I think they're just trying a completely different approach after last year.

Winning and playing in all the games in the NAB cup last year I think was the reason we fell away so much at the end of the season. That and having played 2 GFs the year before. St Kilda's results last year indicate that they struggled too.

What we should have done last year was use our early games in the actual season to run our players in, rather than in the NAB cup. Our team and structures are good enough to win against all but the very best sides without being at our peak, or without having our best side in. We didn't need to win as many games as we did last year to get into the GF - so we could have afforded to not go so hard at it at the beginning of the season.

I'd like to see some of the younger players given a go early in the season to give them the chance to step up, while those older players with little niggles, or those who may struggle to maintain form for the whole season could be bought in around round 4-5.

agreed. The season went on to long and we were ready for finals too early. Round 5 last year felt like round 9. We didn't even want to play in round 24. Hopefully by the end of this season we are ready. Thats all we should care about.

Re: Team's out...

Haven't seen the following yet...
2 - Chris Tarrant
3 - Andrew Krakouer (and won't)
4 - Alan Didak
16 - Nathan Brown
17 - Dayne Beams
19 - Cameron Wood
24 - Josh Thomas
26 - Ben Johnson
41 - Daniel Farmer
43 - Trent Stubbs
44 - Corey Gault
45 - Lachlan Smith

6 or 7 first teamer's still haven't played in the "real" stuff.

Re: Team's out...

Jolly played only the first game against the Dogs in week 1 of NAB Cup and last week got taken off at half time against Melbourne.

Wouldn't be surprised if he just plays another half game this week before a full game next week when the bench numbers are back to normal.

Ok people from what i have re beams is that he may have a little O P, so the pies are easing him in.No use rushing then he doesn't get better,

From what i understand is that OP heals only when you rest otherwise you aggrevate the injury.

Goldsac from what i have heard had a slight knee soreness, but should be ok.I read a report saying he was actually running around and seemed fine.No use taking any chances,we must mange players this year, let the kids go wild,we are still 3 weeks away from season proper who cares if the Adelaide win.

Re: Team's out...

Pissed you guys got Elliott. I've been high on him for 2 years now. Not to mention I was keen on Seedsman 2 years ago as well.

Very keen to see if Elliott gets matched on Stiff One or Jaensch, how he goes with playing on such attacking types.

Re: Team's out...

Did we train yesterday or today?
This weeks opening training session is tomorrow at 9.30am, so I'm guessing we trained yesterday.:)

And as per AFL rules (unless you're Essendon) we will fly out Thursday Afternoon/Night for Adelaide.

Thanks mate. Alot of flying for us this pre-season. All the more reason to keep some recovering players in cotton wool.

I would love for him to be matched up on Stiffy - he would learn so much and we would be able to see his willingness/ableness to chase and tackle one of the best attacking defenders.

Stiffy's been playing as our loose so far, which leaves Jaensch, but Jaensch tends to push higher up the field so If Elliott is instructed to play deep, I imagine the **** will rotate to him.

Re: Team's out...

Haha! So both Beams and Goldsack have different injuries according to different people. I guess all you can say is that neither of them sound serious.
I was about to say the same thing.

Last week Goldy had a knee injury, this week it's his hammy.

2 weeks ago Beams had a groin or quad injury, now he's got a foot injury.

As you said, they can't be too serious if no one actually knows what injury they have.

As I see it this week we will be missing 6 certain 1st 22 players,

Thomas
Tarrant
Didak
Johnston
Beams
Toovey

3 who are close to or borderline top 22,

Wood
Goldsack
Brown

Krak and McCaff are long term so don't need to consider them in these discussions

It is likely the majority of these 9 are going to be ready round 1 or shortly after. We will struggle to match a strong Adelaide outfit this week but that's not a worry. I like the way we are easing into the season and this will reap dividends later. I think we are still well positioned for 2012

Re: Team's out...

Good to see we're not going full bore this NAB series

Freudian much.:confused::D
In it's old format, a full game albeit bastardized by stupid rule testing, the NAB Cup held at least a modicum of relavance.
In this new "boutique" format it's irrelevance has plimbed new depths.

At the moment is solely an opportunity to injure players.

AFL can this shit please (like they would listen to the grass roots.)

It is good to see us thumbing our nose at the AFL this week.

We are only sending a squad of 26 (when you can send 29) and we are basically telling the AFL that two interstate trips, plus a 6 day break leading into this game means we are treating your Crap Cup as it should be treated, pure practice.

Adelaide will probably beat us, a win for them guarantees them a final spot next week after all.

My preview is up on my blog, it's basically what I'll put in the matchday thread later tonight.:D

Dont forget Heater.
That makes it 7.

Heater and Ball so 8 plus the other 3 mean we are playing half our 1st side.
I think thats good, its a long season. If we happen to get over Hawks in the 1st round with a restricted prep things will look very good

How could I forget Bally.

Thats a very good group of 8 players to come back.
