The more important figure is how well/badly the storm game rated in Melbourne.

If League didn't originate out of Sydney, it would much bigger than it is now.

I don't think the game is bad, it just comes from a city that doesn't give a stuff about anything but major sports events.

Had AFL and NRL been from the opposite cities, NRL>AFL in terms of crowds, $$$ etc.

Only parts of Western SYdney like the Dogs and the 3 queensland teams seem to turn out no matter what.

Last night's Storm vs Tigers match was great. It had hard hits, good running etc. If the AFL becomes more soft, I can see people turning towards NRL more. People prefer hard games in this country and not softer games.
I couldn't agree with myself more.

185,501 for a record round crowd
Average of 46,000 in Brisbane
Averaage about 18,000 in Sydney

I think the old idea of football/rugby/soccer states/cities is over

We should refer to sports cities (Melb, Bris, Perth, Adelaide, C/church, Wellington, Newcastle) and non-sports cities (Auck, Syd, Canberra).

The last time I looked the populations of Melbourne & Brisbane (for TV rating purposes) were 3.8 million for Melbourne & 2.7 million for Brisbane. If you divide the TV audience of the NRL game in by the population of Melbourne i.e .238 /3.8 you get 6.1%.

Likewise if you divide the AFL audience in Brisbane by the population i.e. .185 / 2.7 you get 6.85%.
actually Melbourne is 4.102mil and Brisbane is 2.656mil

so about 20% per a capita more in Brisbane watched the AFL on a lower rating night than who watched NRL game in Melbourne.

Could you give me the reference for the populations in the respective TV areas. I can't find it.

There were also some Pay TV ratings' figures for the FNF NRL game:

They were:

18 NRL BRONCOS V COWBOYS FOX Sports 3 43,716
.
.
.

rugby league attendances were great for round one. :D
May I ask compared to what? You NRL idiots are jumping in the air about 185,000 people attending 8 games. The Broncos have enjoyed their derby and will return to a regular sight of Suncorp Stadium being half full and if you don't beleve me then look at their crowds for the last few seasons. I don't understand how Sydney is being called a rugby league town when an average of 16,000 turn up to games. Western Sydney is a rugby league area and that's all. The break up of Friday night footy ratings says that people in the west watch, but people in the north and east don't.

Where are the viewership by east, west, north, etc? I just don't recall seeing them so far on this thread at least, would be interested to see any.

28,266 at the Lions game tonight, really doing a number on the 24,000 at the Broncos last weekend. It doesn't matter how many games the Lions lose their crowds will never get lower than 20,000, but the Broncos can get as low as 15,000 even when they're winning. Brisbane is far from a rugby league town.

Footy crowds never change a huge ammount no matter how the team is doing. Of course they do go down in tough times at every club, but you don't see the massive fluctuations that you see in other sports.

Whilst your facts MAY be right (your form is poor) - your observations regarding Rugby League in Brisbane are wrong.

You cleary have little to no knowledge of the Rugby League landscape in Brisbane, but please, carry on and amuse us with your rants...

P.S I addressed this aspect in your other thread titled 'Lions crowd topples Broncos' - I'd ask you and others to take a look at my considered opinion on the subject.

So to summarise:

"You're wrong, so there."
