Any need to swear at me just because my view is not in praise of us always looking for fev??

No need to swear at me.

I'm just saying our club needs to work on the structure of our forward line.

And it's true, we will lose the game if all we do is go to Fev.

Dont appreciate you swearing at me just because my view differs to yours. :thumbsd:

Have a look at all of the great Forwards over the past 10+ years and every one of them was looked for by their team mates more often than not.

Dunstall, Lockett, Ablett, Sumich, Lloyd, Richo, etc, etc.

Fev is no different, although he wouldn't be up there with a few of the names I have just mentioned. We do have quite a potent forward line, and as we have won all 3 games so far, it doesn't seem to have hurt us so far.

What you need to consider HBF is that we have been looking for Fev even when it is not appropriate. This allows the opposition to rebound and this constant rebounding is what killed our backline last year, not merely there lack of talent. This needs to be recognised so that it can be dealt with.

part of dealing with this is realising we need more options up forward so that we can go to other players when Fev is covered. The game is completely different to when we had big marking leading forwards, not to recognise this is bias.

You logic is also skewed. "All cats have tails, this animal has a tail, there fore it must be a cat" type logic. Fev is a great forward, the coleman medalist, but is that because we have no-one else ? Wouldn't any team that only looked to one person to score there goals week in week out produce a player who had a high goal tally. Of course.

People are raising the issue of having a single target up forward is one dimensional and if we rely on it too much opposition teams will learn how to easily beat us, take out Fev. To prevent this we need to stop relying on Fev and produce other reliable targets.

Further, producing other targets will mean they need to be covered, reducing the pressure on Fev allowing him to play a more.

All in all the argument which is being put forward by AWG is more convincing in so many ways.

End of story really.

I disagree with some of that Audas.
Whilst I acknowledge that the game has changed alot since Dunstall, Lockett and Sumich have played, teams that have a potent forward generally look for them. Have a look at these names:

Brisbane - Brown (when fit)
Carlton - Fevola
Essendon - Lloyd
Melbourne - Neitz
Richmond - Richo
Swans - Hall

All of these guys are very important to their respective teams and their team mates look for them.

Two of the points that I disagreed with AWG was:

exactly audas - but we need more goal scorers.

In the 3 games so far, we've had 11 different goal scorers.
Fev was far to good for Fletcher and Mal in the game against Essendon, and got the better end of the umpires decisions with their new interpretation of the in the back rule.

Against Hawthorn, he only kicked 2, but we had others who chimed in to help us get over the line

Against the Kangaroos, he was always going to have the better of Firrito, and I don't blame the players for looking for him. Also thought Betts and Fisher looked dangerous as well, and Hartlett was a good presence as well

We'll lose this game because we will rely on Fev.

If we have been too reliant on Fev so far, well, it hasn't hurt us yet.

Do Whitnall, Kennedy, Fisher, Betts, Stevens, Ackland, Murphy, Houlihan and a few others not play for Carlton.

FFS AWG, of course we are going to look for Fev most of the time, but that is because he is such a good footballer. You don't kick 80 odd goals in one season in the bottom team if you are not a good player.

Perhaps we do look for him a bit too often, but alot of our problems are because when he has a few players around him, there is very rarely anyone at his feet, and this is where guys like Betts, Murphy and the like need to improve.

Somebody put on their grumpy pants tonight :(

unless someone pulls out with injury, there really is no need to change a winning side
