Yeah it's been done before but not recently and selection has probably been affected by training. Here's my preferred Carlton side if we were to play at full strength, and then there's a second side I'd pick if we were going to be smart play mainly kids and fringe players with a couple a senior players thrown in for leadership.

Full Strength

B Andrew Carrazzo, Bret Thornton, David Teague
HB Jason Saddington, Lance Whitnall(vc), Andrew Walker
C Ryan Houlihan, Adam Bentick, Heath Scotland
HF Bradley Fisher, Jarrad Waite, Kade Simpson
F Eddie Betts, Brendan Fevola, Matthew Lappin
R Barnaby French, Anthony Koutoufidies(c), Nick Stevens(vc)
Int Dylan McLaren, Cory McGrath, Luke Blackwell, Marc Murphy, Trent Sporn, Adrian Deluca

Resting

B David Teague, Luke Livingston, Cory Mcgrath
HB Andrew Walker, Chris Bryan, Jordan Russell
C Kade Simpson, Adam Bentick, Andrew Carrazzo
HF Bradley Fisher, Adam Hartlett, Marc Murphy
F Justin Davies, Setanta O’hAilpin, Eddie Betts
R Dylan McLaren, Nick Stevens(c), Ryan Houlihan
Int Luke Blackwell, Trent Sporn, Simon Wiggins, Adrian Deluca, Jordan Bannister, Ian Prendergast(vc)

Resting: Bret Thornton, Matthew Lappin, Anthony Koutoufidies, Barnaby French, Lance Whitnall, Brendan Fevola, Heath Scotland, Jarrad Waite, Jason Saddington,

Once Kennedy, Bower and Edwards are ready to go for senior footy, where do u think they will slot into those sides ?
Who knows? Impossible to tell this early. In the under 18s comp Thornton was a midfielder and Fevola was a defender. Edwards could end up as a dower defender, Kennedy as a top midfielder and Bower as a star CHF.

But hopefully Bower becomes a top class tall defender (Full Back prehaps), Kennedy a tough enforcing CHF, and Edwards as a tall mobile pacy winger or HBF.

Just figured I'd point it out.

I reckon we'll have something like this:

B: J.Saddington L.Livingston A.Carrazzo

HB: A.Walker L.Whitnall B.Thornton

C: H.Scotland A.Bentick R.Houlihan

HF: B.Fisher J.Waite K.Simpson

F: E.Betts A.Hartlett M.Lappin

FOL: B.French A.Koutoufides N.Stevens

Interchange:
M.Murphy
C.McGrath
D.McLaren
L.Blackwell
S.O'hAilpin
D.Teague

That would be a young and exciting team to watch. Although, I suspect Prendergast, Wiggins, and Deluca will get a run as well. Call it an ill feeling...

And if Kouta or French feel so much a tickle before the game, they must be rested. No questions asked.

Pretty much agree, although I'd like to see Edwards given a run. I've got a feeling this guy is going to do very very well. He'll eventually be big enough to play KP. Has lots of speed of the first 20 apparently. Unlucky not to go top 20. :)

Can't rest too many senior players, where are they going to get their match fitness and form from?

Let's not get carried away by playing all or nearly all of the kids. It's not a good idea to expose them if they are not ready. Fevola needs to rest and get fit so I would rest him but unless there are other injuries I think they should all play - Kouta, Stevens, French, Waite, Thornton, etc included.

What I would like to see is a better game plan of more possession-type football which I think is on the cards. Give Walker, Russell, Bentick, Carrazzo, Hartlett, Blackwell, Simpson more time on the ball and give Kouta some more forward time. More rotations through the midfield and more flexability with where we play our tall players is needed also.

Will be interesting to see if Bryan, Setanta and De Luca get a go and where they are played if McLaren and French play ruck.

i'd have saddington in the team regardless of what side we decide to select

he needs time under match conditions as he is going to be pretty important to us in 2006
