We may want to give as little away as possible.
No offense to the Tigers, but Collingwood are far more of a threat to us and our push up the ladder than the Tigers. Not saying we're premiership contenders but we'd be more confident of beating the Tigers with a plan B, C & D than Collingwood.
My point exactly. You play us Rd 1 and the Pies Rd 3, by which time the season will be warming up and pre season plans may well be changing/evolving. I'd also guess there is more advantage to be gained for the underdog team seeing the potential match ups and game plans in action, as they can plan adjustments accordingly. Not that this would necessarily make a big difference, but it could be the tipping point in a close game.
All in all then strategically I'd be putting the 'inexperienced' side out against the Tigers, and saving the seniors for the Pies.
