Top 5 of each league automatically qualify for finals, plus best placed 6th team (to be decided firstly on points, then percentage). The sixteen teams will then be seeded from first to sixteenth (based on league position, then points, then percentage) with 1st facing 16th, 2nd facing 15 etc. in double-legged matches (home vs. away, away vs. home). This will then be a straight knockout finals series, with all matches being double-legged, except for the 2022 NAFL Grand Final, which will be home vs. home.

League B, Round 1 is now open for voting.

Also, worth noting that I will probably be slower in getting rounds up this year, because well, my life is a lot busier than it was last time this competition was running, so sorry in advance!

Spoken with the others mods to find a solution to get this competition back on the road.

Fact is, I’m too busy to run NAFL this season - working full time (plus overs) doing apparel design for a living, plus a wife, family, sports and social life doesn’t leave me with a lot of time to even jump on BigFooty.

Difference isn’t that I’ve not entered, difference is my life has changed entirely since the last NAFL, so jog on with that nonsense.

I am sorry to everyone though that I haven’t been able to live up to the standard this season in terms of running this competition, and we will find a solution to get this up and running again.

Firstly, thanks to Freight Train for running this competition over the past few seasons. What he did last year with the massive number of teams and nightly polls was an enormous effort, and anybody who has run a competition knows how big of an effort that was, truly something we'll probably never see again.

This year was planned to go the same way, however life has gotten in the way for FT, which is completely reasonable given his work and and family situation has changed.

Lots of entrants put in a lot of great work for NAFL this year, and we want to see that rewarded with a resolved, completed competition and a 2022 champion, so what we're going to do is make this a knockout tournament.

In each knockout matchup, we'll have Home v Home, Away v Away and Next v Next. If you win 2 of the 3 mini games, you progress to the next round.

We have 30 teams, so in round 1, everyone who has 2 entries in the competition will play against themselves, with the rest of the field being randomly drawn against each other. That will take us down to 15 teams, so we will have 1 lucky loser go through, who will be the team that loses 2-1 by the lowest cumulative margin across their 3 games.

After that, we'll again be randomly drawn into the round of 16 and we'll continue on with ties being decided by the Home v Home, Away v Away and Next v Next until we have a 2022 champion.

NAFL is a staple of this board and it will continue moving forward, but it's important that this season is complete before we start working on how the next season of NAFL will look.
