I'd try and define the shape of the Eagle head on the jumper more. Add in shadow lines for the beak and an eye to give it some detail. Also, maybe try lowering the mountain and darkening the yellow so it doesn't blend in with the Eagle and get confused for an oversized wing. Matching up the back will also tie the design in much better

Otherwise, it's a clever design, just needs some fine tuning to compete further. Definitely a smokey for the title this year
Interesting. FWIW that eagle head was from my first season as the Whittlesea Eagles and now this was my fourth. Initially this was going to be a fauxback jumper for next season but I didn’t have any better ideas for this one so I used it this season. In hindsight you’re definitely right about giving the eagle a beak and eyes, although I struggle with eyes so I’d probably have to steal them off another logo. Might do an updated version of the jumper with everyone’s feedback in mind.
In the nicest possibly way, and I was guilty of this with the Boomers hence the complete change this season, it's that you're beating a dead horse. Every year seems to be quite subtle changes, which just don't translate when the previous season hasn't had the best results either. At the moment, the navy and gold just isn't working because it's not eye-catching, and most often doesn't work with exception to El_Scorcho's FIRA team because of the crafty design elements. Wanted to move you up to the top flight this season because you've been toiling in the Ressies for a while and you're a decent designer, but I'd love to see something really fresh from Whittlesea.
Agree with the first part to some extent, although last year I went with the big W which is in no way similar to this I would’ve thought, and I had that in mind before I went for this design as I was going to use the W again. I’m thinking of trying a whole new colour scheme next season, with some amount of teal or pink in it. Would definitely need to find a good balance if I did that though. Agree that it’s not exactly working, doesn’t help that there’s an AFL team with the same name and similar colours for a long time either. We’ll see what I do next season as it will be my 5th (!) with that name but that should be a good time to freshen it up I would’ve thought.

Anyone got feedback/potential improvements for Whittlesea?

Firstly, your design and execution this year are pretty good! I like the big bold block colour eagle, although I did think the hills were wings. No real obvious faults, I probably just don't find that it catches my eye as much as it could.

I think what you suffer from most is that I feel like i've seen it all before. Could you put up a yearly progression of your home guernseys? It's a bit of a balancing act, and I know all too well what it's like to try to keep an identity strong but also make it new and bold every year. It can be tough in these competitions because you need to consider every element of your entry and how it ties into everything else. Your shorts and socks look like a bit of an afterthought when they could be adding something to your design.

IMO, given how long they've been around now, i'd keep the Eagles for next season, but i'd definitely change things up a bit. That doesn't necessarily mean dropping blue and gold, it might just mean changing the shades a bit, adding a tertiary colour like white or sky or something. Remember that you're trying to capture a classic footy guernsey aesthetic while also doing something that we've never seen before for that wow factor.

Here are the guernsey progressions of my two longest term teams on the board where i'm trying to stick that that sort of philosophy. Birmingham is probably the best example for you because it's a blue and gold team and it shows how i've tried to update the design and colours through the years so it's always new and different while trying to stick to a similar style and aesthetic.

And you can see with Waikato that i've changed over the years from a red and yellow team to a red and black team, but again i've done it slowly to try to keep the identity intact

My advice is to start tinkering now with a new template and design. Have a look at what some of the other long term identities have done through the years to keep it fresh and update their look while staying fairly true to the identity. Wellington, the Hornets, Boomers and Pirates are all good teams to look at for this sort of thing. Obviously if you have any questions or want any feedback as you go, ask.

Have been holding off on replying to this since I haven't been with my computer. I'll start with my yearly progression.

I'm sort of confused as to how this year could be considered too similar to previous. This year has been more yellow heavy than any before, and while it's riffing off the first jumper, it's done in a different way. Is it the colours? Because those are a little bit sacrosanct, and not something that I'd change hastily. Could be the template. They all derive from yours. Not trying to sound precious or anything, and I do think my entry was better than some that got promoted from memory. I'm keen to see what I could do better. Agree that the socks do feel like an afterthought. It doesn't really match and I could have put a pattern on them. I've sort of got an idea that I sketched up for next year. Can't help but feel like I've seen it before, but hopefully I tinker with it enough that it's unique. Appreciate the feedback greatly, thank you!

I might be the minority but I actually love your design this year. Only this that I'd say would make it better, and I think i suggested it earlier, was to make the triangle part more of a curve which will make it look like part of a wing. I like the idea behind the hills, but the straight edge of it might be turning some people off which is my guess. Template is brilliant tbh, but I guess realistic temps are where it's at nowadays. And as for the colours, I think they are alright. Not too boring but not to crazy. Only suggestion there is to somehow squeeze a tertiary colour in there somehow. I have a feeling the major flaw in my designs are that it's di-chromatic (two-colour scheme). But don't get me wrong, it can still work out for a lot of teams like Scorch's Birmingham.

All in all if I was to give a rating between 0 (flipping shitehouse) and 10 (Swooping Magpie v2.0) I'd give it a 6.5. Which is by now means a bad score for Reserves.

I think if you mess around with it for a while during the off season, you might just strike gold. Personally, I take inspiration from the world around me which is why I chose Tsars because I was doing it in History

Well that's my in-depth analysis, dang, why could I write this much on my history SAC
