As I said, 9 wins this season could be a good omen.If Lyon was coaching in 2020, I expected 6th on the ladder or better or Lyon was gone ... regardless of injuries. Not even I would have been making excuses for his contract to be renewed.
In 2011, Freo had 9 wins. Lyon took the helm in 2012 and Freo ended finishing 7th with 14 wins. 6wins/5losses in the first half of the season as the players learnt the new game plan and 8wins/3 losses in the 2nd half of the season (plus 2 finals 1win & 1loss).
So, in 2020, if we have a reasonable run with injuries, I would expect something similar to Lyon's 2012.
If we have another bad run with injuries or luck, then at least still being in contention for a finals spot come round 23.
we got 9 wins in 2011 and 9 wins in 2002. We backed up both seasons playing finals the next year.
Both 2012 and 2003 got us 14 wins and 8 defeats.
I can see freo get 14 wins with a good coach and a good injury run
