Alcock: "Clearly many things have been considered in it but as I've said and I'll repeat it again: we were not in a position to extend Ross's contract post 2020. That is a decision that we have made. Having made that decision, what we did not want to do was to go into season 2020 with this being out for public debate and the pressure that comes with that. And that in fairness to our coach Ross Lyon frees him up to pursue his future and it also frees our club up with clear direction for the future and that is what we are doing here."

Alcock: "There are many things that were in our consideration. There are not single factors and I'm certainly not going to drift off into discussion of what is [has] made up the final decision."

I don't think four losing seasons in a row helped Ross Lyon at all. Those four losing seasons may well have been the main factor in the sacking.

But Alcock's statements suggest that there may have been more to his dismissal than making finals this year.

Too many unknowns for me. For example Lyon may have told the club that he would only extend his contract for 3 plus years minimum, which the club wouldn't accept. But that fits the statement as well as any other conjecture.

Hello dropbear101 from the past after a slight detour (we are to young to contend thread) of pessimism i have returned to the fact fremantle are going to conquer all next year and all shall bow to our greatness.

Opposition sides will beg for mercy, our sledges will rival monty pythons french knight.

If we don’t expect more than 11 wins why did we change coach. That was Ross’s pass fail last year and I don’t see any reason to change that expectation.

ross lost his job when we lost 5000 members say each membership cost 270 (i think) thats 1.3 million in lost revenue. thats not counting a drop in 1.5 thousand people going to games. All those people buy merchandise and other stuff.

I think it was his boring game style.
Brisbane finish bottom 4 last year and added 1000 members that season.

Vastly different scenario as it was well established Brisbane were on the way up.

I'd be happy with anything above 10 wins, It's funny - I wouldn't have accepted that under Ross but there's a lot of unknown with a new coach and feel our approach has shifted to a slighter longer term view (which is good).

We'll wait and see - look forward to the early training reports to come through!

There is no. It will take half a season before the team start adapting to a new coach and his game plan and tactics. I expect to get to the mid season break feeling a bit pessimistic and thinking we're not doing any better than under the old coach. In the second half of the year I expect to see a bit of improvement. It might be enough to keep finals hopes alive in the second half of the season. But I am not exoecting anything more than mid-table finish with a late flurry. Maybe 10th
