Its well known that Naitanui can take a hanger and one day he might even take mark of the year because of his incredible leap, but I also think Naitanui needs to learn that being able to jump high is also his biggest downfall when it comes to marking.

In short, he NEVER takes front position in marking contests. He always wants to run and jump from behind like a high school kid playing kick to kick at lunch time. Someone needs to pull this bloke aside and tell him that he should play in front more and use his body strength to hold his opponent out of the contest. This probably comes across more watching the game live than it does on TV, but when he lines up in the forward line and one of our midfielders bombs it in, he always wants to run and jump at it, even if there is 10 people in front of him.

Surely one of the development staff at West Coast have noticed this bad habit and will iron it out of his game. He actually has a good clean pair of hands, and if he took front spot more he would take more marks. His tendency to run from behind and jump also negatively affects his ruckwork at boundary throw-ins. Opposition ruckman (especially Sandilands) have worked out that all you have to do it takes front position, protect the drop of the ball and Naitanui has no chance of winning the tap.

Im a fan of naitanuis centre circle ruck work, ball up ruck work and tackles, but he really needs to improve his marking sooner rather than later. And if anyone disagrees that he is a bad marker, his best year in 2012 he played 22 games and only took 66 marks. Compare that to Sandilands (96), Ryder (110), Cox (141) Jacobs (93) Goldstein (90) Maric (92), the list goes on. The only ruckman that is as athletic is Ryder. All of the other lumbering rucks have had better seasons marking, some of which are in less successful teams.

Its about time Naitanui was told to GET IN FRONT.
