Injury Naitanui's knee

Well your finals chances went **** up from that point, so have ours.
Fyfe's injury gave Lyon a bail out from proper scrutiny for a season that was already going south before Fyfe went down

Yes they lost Johnson, A Pearce and Fyfe for the season fairly early on, Sandilands missed most of it and Bennell never got on the park but they didn't win a game early anyway do even had those players not gone down chances are they still would have missed finals

Nicnat is a big loss but I ******* well hope we don't give up on a season because of it the way Freo did with Fyfe

My best mate did his ACL a few years ago and had the operation here. He had it done by the same guy who did Worsfold's.

Personally think Johnson is the biggest loss for Freo. Even last year whilst he was out with injury Freo went backwards.

Hope our boys get the bit between the teeth and give it their all. Nic will be a huge loss and impossible to replace as he's so unique, but they must stay positive and continue to work for each other like they did against the Hawks. Wonder what combination Simmo will go with into next Friday nights game. Who will assist Lycett?

But you have your coleman medalist and your brownlow medalist and all australian full back.

Haha you think so?

We are 3-18 but freo are better than the stats suggest. I can recall a fair few games where it was either close loss or we were leading at 3 quarter time or had one bad quarter or just ran out of energy.

The gold coast came we conceded 7 goals in that 2nd quarter. take that out and we would of won by 2-3 goals.

The north game we were down by 1-2 goals at 3 quarter time but died off.

Then the carlton game... Fyfe went down tabs attempted chest mark cost us the game. we lost by under a goal. we were 0-5 and our confidence was shot and the losses compounded.

Then the infamous saints game... up buy 2 goals at 3 quarter time and got overrun.

Then came the 3 goal loss to gws.

Then came the 3 wins... 10 goal win vs the bombers, 80 point win vs the Lions and 17 point win vs Port.

Then that narrow 3 goal loss to geelong. Cats kicked accurately we kicked 1.3 in that final quarter. had the cats been inaccurate and we kick 3.1, We would of won by a goal.

Then another 4 goal loss to the suns.

So yeah we won 2 home games this year but should of been 5-6.

Freo last year did just enough to win games.

i expected a drop this year but not this severe. Be lucky nic nats injury happened now compared to round 1. hell be lucky you didnt have an injury run like freo did.

Going to be an interesting draft and trade period for freo.

Coulda woulda shoulda - a loss is a loss mate!! Know you are trying to look for the positives but even taking your injuries into account it's quite amazing how badly Freo have dropped off this year.

well i can take a few positives with freo. Neale has gone up a notch and
Ross Lyon was forced to play youth. We wont be the 1st to drop off like this and we wont be the last either. Glad we got a top 5 pick as well.

Where did Ezy and Brown have their surgery - local or over east? Have heard there are a couple of Orthopaedic Surgeons who specialise in ACL/knee surgery here in Perth?
where did Fyfe go? On a flight.

Hoe are Ezy and Brown tracking? Its not just the op, its the strategy and recovery -Dockers and eagles should set up a base in melbourne so our players get the absolute best. I have had two rallies who go a top doctor to advise and they were both referred to a melbourne doc and recovery centre. And it wasn't major surgery like a knee reach. Where is the worlds best advice on larz etc. Swans send players OS. Keep away from local hacks I still say. Even the better hacks.

we were 0-5 and our confidence was shot and the losses compounded.

Like I said your season was going to s**t before Fyfe broke down

After that Lyon put the cue in the rack and for the most part noone asked any serious questions about how s**t Freo were playing

We wont be the 1st to drop off like this

You've hard the worst drop off in the history of the game from 17 wins last year to 3 this year (4 if you pull off a miracle and beat the Bulldogs, who btw have arguably had a worse injury run than freo)

To say that in WA we don't have some of Australia's best Orthopaedic surgeons is daft. There are quality ones here it's just that there are a few different options available for best outcome, such as 4 strand v 8 strand et al. Some of those might be offering the best outcomes and unavailable here or the surgeon can't perform them at the time etc.

Really it's what process can work best with 100kg+ athletic machine on top of the joint, as opposed to amateur league Andy who busts his knee in the change rooms trying to show a few of the boys the one speccy he took in 2004

I debate that. go look at the injury ladder article if you can find it.
This thread has **** all to do with Freo. On your bike.

what? Am i trespassing on your land? Some random person wanted a convo about freo dropping off so i gave them a through explaination. sorry i went off topic.

Now back on the topic, i am curious about your ruck stocks. Who you got left? Giles? Lycett? Fraser McInnes?. McGovern can pinch hit in the back line.

You've pretty much nailed it. Lycett now becomes leading ruck and plays a lot of minutes and its a toss up between a few different alternatives what we do when he's resting .

lycett i know of Giles is a journey man with 50 odd games with Port, gws and essendon.

Fraser McInnes i havent heard much of all i know is that he has played a hand ful of games and is a ruck/forward.

You know more about the list than I do. But at least there is alternative options. You just need to find the right combinations.

pretty much, lycett is a gun though more of a traditional ruckman. no problems there. it's the rest that's a worry. giles is a giant lumbering potato that adds very little, and mcinnes isn't afl standards that adds nothing.
mcgovern wants to ruck and might be pretty good, but then it takes him away from his best position.
brown has also been used in a couple of games, never rucked before so adds nothing there, but is at least lively and causes chaos in the contest once the ball comes down.

Where is this idea coming from that Perth docs are hacks. WA has a pretty good reputation in many different areas. World-leading in some.
its coming from personal experience where worth surgery in pert is second rate. look at people with minor complications who if they get the right advice are refers to melbourne surgeons. I have direct relatives who have experienced this.

I am prepared to bet the the eagles club doc would have consulted widely and he will be flying soon. No what will they risk him having surgery in Perth. no way in the world. They have the inside info.

all surgeons aint surgeons sol;

God that is some BS if I've ever read it! As some one that's done an ACL, it had nothing to do with anything else!! What I just read has nothing to do with an acl and everyone is dumber for reading that crap
Is it though really?
The plantaris muscle has dual joint function (ankle and knee), albeit a minor one. The fact that he does an ACL 2 games after returning from a surgery that effectively severed the tendon of this small muscle would raise a few questions and I suspect that the WC hierarchy would be asking the medical staff that very question.
The plantaris is very active when plantar flexion occurs in full knee extension. Moderate plantaris activity is observed during stair climbing and level walking which suggests that the plantaris muscle assists the function of the knee in loading situations.
He did his ACL in a load bearing situation.
Could all be coincidence, could be related. Most likely all just really bad luck :(
I wish him well and hope he comes back fit and firing. The game is worse off when he is not in it.

Anecdotes do not equal evidence. Given the size of Perth, it's likely a better doctor lives outside the city (and the country) but that doesn't mean we don't have some excellent doctors. Look at Fiona Wood, if you had a burn anywhere in the world, you would have rather been treated in Perth than wherever you are. We're not some Third World state.
