If thats the case the afl should never have allowed games back in perth.
Some stuff reads like the WA government changed the restrictions after Geelong & Collingwood headed for Perth the other week

If the AFL decided no games in WA this season, they may have run into issues with the 2 WA sides - weren't the Eagles unhappy after like the second week in hub life after temporarily moving to Qld? I'm not sure if WA sides would have accepted a season on the road, based on their government's childish antics

You also have the issue of how many games you can reasonably play at such a small number of available venues.

With so many stadia now unavailable due to restrictions, getting access to another key venue was clearly a priority for the AFL to give them flexibility in the fixture. And some sacrifices to the preparation of individual teams may well have been knowingly made to accommodate this wider agenda.

Not sure its that much an issue if the afl is now going to play games all across the week

Wear and tear on the now over-used surfaces surely has to have been given due consideration, though.

Gabba and Metricon (normally both great decks) could start to look very ordinary as this all rolls on.

If we had a return of the mud bogs of the eighties it would actually make this season a little bit more interesting.

Things have changed quickly..one could see WC felt they had got the rough end of it ... now the eagle have a dream run..... and becuase of the gov attitudes and recalcitrant actions they may miss out on a chance to have a home GF.. wouldn't that burn if they finish on top.

I think WC have generally been treated pretty unfairly by the AFL for years.

Here's hoping.

I still don't understand how Geelong and Collingwood were both allowed, firstly to fly into the state, secondly train together as a group and thirdly play a full contact match in front of 20,000+ fans. The latter two being while they were both still in their quarantine period.

It's amazing the mental gymnastics these flogs over here will go to, to justify a game of footy.

As Terry Wallace would say. If they get the gf over here, I'll dead set spew.

It was only one season. Middle of 1989. It was about two weeks where it was really bad - we smashed Essendon and then Melbourne.

From memory that Essendon game should have been at Kardinia but due to Geelong's red hot form and the interest in it, it was moved a week or less before.

Prior to that Essendon game which was round 11.

Rd 10 d Collingwood 23.16 to 13.10 (the game where Sandy Roberts commentated Ablett's goal. The magician at work, what more can you say?) Ablett 7.4
Rd 9 d Richmond 32.19 to 10.17. Ablett 14.2 off the wing
Rd 8 d Brisbane 26.23 to 6.14
Rd 7 d St Kilda 35.18 to 16.13. Exell with 8
Rd 6 lost to Hawthorn 26.15 to 25.13. (Geelong 17.6 to 9.5 in the first half, Hawthorn 17.10 to 8.7 in the second half)

141 goals 89 behinds = 935 at an average of 187 points for per game.

At the time - we need the board statisticians to confirm - that was the first time a team had kicked 20 goals in five successive games since South Melbourne in the 1930s. Think we did it again in 1992.

Sydney in 1987 in three consecutive games.

30.21 to 10.11
36.20 to 11.7
31.12 to 15.17
