Name some players like Jason Heatley (one season wonders)

As did his teammates who were playing for less coin and were likely more deserving of their pay.
I can't remember Essendon paying $5,000,000 to anyone for playing two good games.

Tom Boyd had a good 2016 GF and that's it. He's a poor mans version of Clark Keating.

Essendon bought every premiership it ever won.

That may be true, but we never paid $5 million for a potato.

Tom Boyd doesn't even meet the minimum qualification for having his name raised in this thread, so let's move on.

Potatoes are great if they play their best games in winning GF sides

I refuse to pay more than $4/kg for potatoes, so Boyd is worth roughly $320. You paid overs.

I don't understand why you guys are so sensitive about this topic. Essendon paid millions to put a pair of nuts in charge. I'll sell mine for a few hundred thousand.

I never realised Brad Pearce had such a lopsided career. Gavin Exell in 1989 is the classic Geelong example. Shannon Byrnes is another that may not be especially obvious. Seriously quality in 2009-10 and list clogger level basically for the rest of his career. Brent Prismall in 2008 might be another worthy of mention.

Wouldn't mind seeing how the rest of Scott Wynd's career stacks up against 1992. Similarly Luke Darcy's career (solid, pretty good player) compared to 2002? I think it was when he won the AFL MVP and I think a fair few additional media awards and the like. Perhaps Matthew Allan around 1999?

I don't have any stats in front of me right now, but I can tell you that they were two of the most consistent top level players in the club's history.
I would love to have them in the side today, even if they were nearing the end of their careers. I think all Dogs fans would agree.

Jason Heatley was a very good FF. He was on WC list but despite kicking a bag every game for Subi Malthouse refused point blank to select him. Said he wasnt defensive enough.

Morabito was a bull. Cut down by multiple ACLs.

Yeah I can see how that came off as a bit harsh, more just a different kind of leap I suppose: from good/very good players to arguably the best player in the league for a year.

Can believe people knocking Boyd. Career didn't pan out, however, worth every cent, taking out Ward in the PF and instrumental in the Dogs GF win with three goals.

I reckon every Dogs fan would pay double for him if it guaranteed a flag.

So many dumb takes on Boyd.

In 1997 it seemed like he never missed a shot a goal. Kicked 73 that season and took the Saints to the Grand Final......................Then he literally disappeared.

I remember him destroying North that year. Had a very punchable face, and I thought Mick Martyn was seriously going to try it. He kicked 31.5 in 7 games against North - by far his greatest total against any opponent (Melb 18 goals was 2nd).

Was happy to see him not line up against us when retired.

Adrian McAdam. 1993 kicked 68 from 17 including some ridiculous number of goals in a team with Longmire and Carey in his first three games. Was fat and slow in 94 and that was it.
Has to be the clubhouse leader. Heatley had a couple of good years, and his best year he kicked 42% of his career goals.

McAdam barely played 3 seasons - 17 games, 18 games and 1 game, kicking 68.43, 22.21 and 2.1.
Those 68 goals in 17 games in 1993, represent almost 74% of all the goals in his career.

Not many players debut with 7 goals, and follow up with 10, 6, 3, 3, 9 in the next 5 games. Average 6.3 goals over his first 6 games, and got to 50 goals in near record time.

Spot on about Shannon Byrne's. What was it about those 2 years where he suddenly became a good player? Did he just work harder? Maybe teams just didn't focus on him and he slipped under the radar for 2 years.

In 2009 adelaide crows player Chris Knights kicked 43 goals and was a 50 metre specialist. Never to be heard of again!

In the same year Jason Porplyzia kicked 57 goals. He had a solid career, but wasn't anywhere near his 2009 standout season.

His 2011 stats always stick out to me.

1 game
1 mark
1 kick
1 goal
