Congrats Narelle Smith on your appointment as Glenelgs mens Reserves Coach for 2018
For the first time, the SANFL has a woman in its senior coaching ranks, with the Glenelg Football Club appointing Narelle Smith as head coach for its reserves side.
Smith became the first woman to join the South Australian National Football League as a senior coach when the Bays appointed her as a reserves assistant in 2015.
As a player she racked up 130 games in the SA Women's Football League (SAWFL) during a 12-year career, where she operated primarily as a centre-half-back.
She took up coaching in 2009 at the Morphettville Park Women's Football Club and then became state coach for the senior women's side.
Following a stint as chairperson for the SAWFL, she became the backline coach for Melbourne during an annual women's match against the Western Bulldogs at the MCG, which preceded the AFLW competition.
