Nash on Miers

People really getting worked up about this one?

He knocked someone out, we don't want that. There's the three week suspension.

But why is everyone here getting worked up when not a single Geelong player went over to confront Nash about it?

Nash doesn't have a malicious bone in his body. Reckless, careless for sure - ban him for that. But absolutely no malice from this guy. Never has been.

Not entirely true. Bowes and Knevitt remonstrated initially.

I’m as up as anyone to sink the tribunal into a Vic team like we seem to cop it, but in this case I can see enough doubt that it will get the lower end of the range for a swinging arm.
The ball was in the vicinity, was just as high when Nash commenced his action, and then dropped low as the arm came around.
The high contact looks to at Nash’s inside elbow, not the fist, and wraps around Miers’ jaw.

Of course, we all agree it’s a reckless swinging arm which has significantly high contact, causing concussion impact to the level that Miers couldn’t control his body and subsequently hit his head landing on the ground.

I’d say 3 weeks. But I’ve no confidence in anything afl related to be fair, esp MRO and tribunals.

Plays for a big vic club not a non vic club so probably 2 weeks even though:
it should be 6 weeks if Voss got 3
Miers got concussed where as Vlaustin had a blood nose
Already had Kingy defending him post game trying to get him 3. How this isn’t being talked about as 5 or 6 is mind blowing.

Archer 3 for contesting the ball and knocking someone out.. okay.. then this needs to be more than that. Same outcome, very different intentions.

Neither does Gaff. If you swing an arm intending to hit someone and get it wrong then you pay the price.

Doesn’t matter if he wasn’t aiming for the head. He definitely wasn’t playing the ball and knocked someone out

Gaff was 50 metres behind play. At least here the ball was at the level initially of where Nash was swinging his arm

What was his best case scenario though? No chance he was playing the ball with a roundhouse, so at minimum he was looking for contact, and at that point it doesn’t matter whether he meant to hit him in the head or not.

Careless, severe and high. Off to the tribunal if you are Port-listed Dan Houston, 3 weeks from the MRO if you are from a Victorian club.

Vlaustin played this week (& the guy who tackled him clumsily got 3), Miers wont play this week so therefore theoretically the guy who bumped him should get more than 3.

If Voss gets 3 weeks for something way less, then Nash has to get at least 5. Might have to go straight to the tribunal for that. If they just use the regular careless/high/severe for 3 weeks then it will be a joke. Nash has knocked a bloke senseless, while Voss collected someone who got a little cut and was OK enough to get BOG the next week.

3 is just the minimum for that grading. MRO can pick a number above that if they like, or like you said they can send it straight to tribunal.

i still don’t understand how Voss got a severe grading. High & 2 weeks would have been fine and this one becomes three weeks. Now they have to figure out how to give him more weeks for the same action with difference force and outcome.

It's ok. The Nash hit will be graded cataclysmic and he will get five weeks.

Voss' looks way worse that Nash's. At least nash was near the ball. Voss was charging in with a swinging arm and got nowhere near the ball. Only that Voss's didnt result in concussion.

His swinging arm missed the ball by a split second.
Missed the ball? Miers already had the ball..

Thats the first time I’ve ever seen someone trying to dispossess an opponent by swinging a roundhouse at the ball in their hands, if that’s what he’s trying to do.

And even if you give him the benefit of the doubt. What are you doing trying to contest the ball like that around a stoppage?

The reasonable explanation is that he was trying to hit Miers hard with a tackle (only he would know how high he was trying to go), and got it very wrong. Shocking technique and knocked someone out instantly, throw the book at him

Watch more football. Players try to knock the ball out of the oppos hands all the time.

Yeah maybe with a downwards motion. Not that garbage.

If his intention is to knock the ball away then why is he starting a full blooded swing from that position. Just knock the ball out of his hands like a normal human. Intention was to clearly take a bit of the player with him

Voss very lucky there was only a broken nose from his swinging arm. Nash not so lucky. AFL hate anything that ends in concussion. My guess is 4 weeks.
