The Brownlow is a load of shit anyway. About four players are worthy and Nat Fyfe is not one of them yet. He quite simply is far away from being the best and fairest player in the competition, even if he is a really good little footballer.

Surely you jest/troll?

He wouldn't be that far away. Personally I'd say he's the best player at Freo, and Freo are clearly one of the best teams in the comp at the moment.

In the brownlow predictor I ran, I have Fyfe finishing on 24 votes (assuming the umps still give him votes legitimately knowing he cant win) and Ablett winning on 32 from Swan/Selwood

If I remember rightly, last year Fyfe had the highest ave votes per game played.

Correct. It was something like 1.5 votes per game.

Also, yeah bullshit call on Fyfe being "far away" from being the best. He is definitely up there and is arguably top 10 in the competition. If he won the Brownlow this year or next year, he would thoroughly deserve it. I also believe he's our best player now.

Take off the purple glasses.

Nat Fyfe is a champ. A great little footballer who'll develop a career with some impressive titles, like 'Brownlow Medallist.'

Age irrelevant and club irrelevant, which the Brownlow is (the latter to a lesser extent), I would take: Dane Swan, Gary Ablett, Luke Hodge, Sam Mitchell, Scott Pendlebury and that class. Then there's Fyfe.

That's not ludicrous. Nat Fyfe is just not the best player in the competition. Simple. I love the guy and have never baselessly attacked him or had a go at him – he's 21! – and I hope he wins it, but he's not the best footballer in the AFL.

Yeah I'll agree with Silent Alarm here. I absolutely love Fyfe and the way he plays but he isn't with the top of the line players just yet. He is just 21 though, so he will absolutely be one of the best AFL players at some point in his career.

I think you are selling Fyfe a tad short. I don't think you can say Swan, Hodge and Mitchell have been noticeably better than Fyfe (this year, though they have the runs on the board). I would pick Fyfe ahead of those guys if I was selecting a team. Mitchell does have a case, though.

I'd put Pendlebury, Ablett, Griffen, Selwood ahead of Fyfe in 2013, but that's about it. And Griffen has the Dogs losing record counting against him.

The other mids in the AA side like Watson, Boak, Jack, Hannebery, Dangerfield ... if choosing a side, I would only really pick Watson ahead of Fyfe, and even that is debatable.

In summary, Selwood, Pendlebury & Ablett would be more deserving Brownlow leaders for 2013. Fyfe is not the best footballer, like you say, but if he comes in 3rd or 4th, then it is very much well deserved and a decent reflection on his standing amongs mids.

All of this is ignoring the key position players, of course.

Agree, one day he may be though. He still manages to poll votes steadily.

I have multi bet on leading club Brownlow getters:
Fre - Fyfe
Gee - Selwood
GWS - Cameron
Bris - Rockliff
Haw - Mitchell
Rich - Cotchin
West - Priddis

Paying around $5

Seppo what betting agency let you multi those options

Despite what I posted above, I think Barlow at $3.25 is a decent chance to get most votes from Freo.

Is a fairly dumb award. I remember several years in a row (must have been around the late 2000s) I cleaned up just putting money on Black to finish top 3 or 5, when he was way down the list of fancies. Magnificent player, one of the very best mids to have played in the last 20 years, but geez the umpires loved giving him votes.

I honestly wouldn't swap Fyfe for any other mid in the competition bearing in mind his age and potential to improve.

No I wouldn't either, I was just commenting on his current ability compared to other elite mids :)

I think there's a more than decent chance that Barlow will outpoll Fyfe.

I think a lot of people are selling Barlow short when they claim that Fyfe is clearly our best player. I know a lot of people who rate Barlow as our best.

Fyfe has enormous impact with his contested ball winning ability, contested marking, ability to cover the ground and 2 way running. He is incredibly smart with deft touches etc. He already is a top 10 player.
