You sound a tad obsessed. Sure Robin Hood is going a bit over the top here, and needs to reminded to restrain himself, but c'mon.Bobby Giovanni said:Not ONE well regarded or reputable Geelong fan has made any claim of the sort, it's the blowfiles like yourself who start all the rubbish.
Thus, hatred is still justified.
Pepi said:Nathan played 3 senior games this year being in the best against Newcomb and Anglesea where he also kicked 2 goals. He also played against the geelong amateurs but left when he realised there was a reporter there.

I agree Jim Boy I was a bit over the top. It just annoys me people put some much pressure on the Kid when he should just be able to play football. Calling him the next Nick Reiwoldt isnt going to help seeing he has already walked away from football once.Jim Boy said:You sound a tad obsessed. Oh, and for the record, I can think at least one example of a 'reputable' geelong fan who probably went over the top, for example saying that signing Nathan was Brian Cook's greatest achievement.

Total Package said:Thats what I mean... the media just quote what comes out of the club... and nobody is as good at pumping up the tyres of their overrated players than Geelong.... or maybe Essendon.

Robin Hood said:How do you know that? Or are you just listening to others who havent seen him play and repeating their dribble? No one would have got drafted in Nathan's state except an Ablett in a pi$$ poor draft.
Robin Hood said:Im allowed an opininon on a player who everyone over rates.
GeeCat said:The same way everyone else is inclined to their opinions on Nathan.
You appear to be so insistent that Nathan is not yet up to it, obviously your opinion on him and something which is allowed, yet when others post their very own opinions on him, you feel so inclined to sit there and take potshots at them for their view on the matter.
). Sure, he is not going to win the Coleman, Brownlow and Premiership of his own boot in his first year, and may not ever do this. But Cats fans have a right to get excited about recruiting Nathan. The kid played in an U16's premiership team when he was 12. He played against kids who were 3 and a half years older than him. I was amazed when i used to play junior footy with Daniel Kerr, who is now one of the first picked in West Coast's midfield. He played one year above his grade. Gary Ablett Jnr played with his brother, two years above his grade. Face it people, anyone who is not a Geelong supporter wishes they could have him, and any Cat fans who are bagging him need to understand what they are saying. He may not be Riewolt, but it seems that he will probably go close. The main reason he is compared with St Nick is because he is a mobile big man with good ground skills (this is what has been written in reports as said by his coach).Have you and when did you see him play? What did you think of him? Logic says most of you haven't seem him play so can't predict what he will be. So this crap about being the next Nick Reiwoldt is 100% made up rubbish.GeeCat said:And who are you to judge whether or not others have or haven't seen Nathan play?
No Im not saying Nathan isnt up to it. Im saying stop calling him the next Nick Reiwoldt when most people here know nothing about him. Just stop being unrealstic about a kid most people here have never seen play. Just let him play next season and make a judgement after actually seeing him play or train etc.GeeCat said:The same way everyone else is inclined to their opinions on Nathan.

I agree signing him was a good thing to do considering it seemed impossible.phat said:Most in the know thought signing Nathan Ablett was literally impossible as little as two months ago, the fact that Brian Cook (and others) managed the impossible makes it a massive achievement.
Nothing whatsoever to do with Nathan Ablett's talent or otherwise, simply a opinion/comment about getting something done that was considered an impossibility.
Is saying that it is Cook's finest achievement worse than people crapping on about how Nathan is going to dominate from Round 1 next year etc.?
Storm. Teacup.
Robin Hood said:Saying "Nathan Ablett is GOD" was taking the pi$$ out of the majority of Cats fans who know nothing about him and have said he is God, the next Reiwoldt, Going to Dominate Round 1 and 2005 etc
WestCat said:Yeah, I mean just because the coaching staff, recruiting staff and everyone else involved with the club thinks he has talent. Why did they bother recruiting him, he's a hack, has no mental strength and will walk away from the game next week anyway. Geez the whole Geelong team must be stupid.
WestCat said:This load of B/S pretty much sums up what everyone has been saying (sensible people excluded). Sure, he is not going to win the Coleman, Brownlow and Premiership of his own boot in his first year, and may not ever do this.

Okay maybe the majority is not the right word BUT a lot of Cats fans are being unrealistic.phat said:Who has said any of that, let alone the "majority"?
I've probably seen one or two people making silly claims about his football, that is far from the majority, in fact the absolute vast minority.

Most key forwards don't have much impact in their first two years and let alone one who has been playing for Modewarre. Modewarre U18s get flogged by 30 goals playing against teams like Geelong Amateurs, Drysdale, Ocean Grove and Torquay (other teams in their league). To suggest that Nathan Ablett is ready for senior football is a joke.
What makes you think Nathan Ablett can even do that? He has played 5 or 6 games of senior footy in the BFL. No TAC Cup games, no state games - most of these players have played these competions....What makes you think Nathan can do that? He is very raw.
I dont have a problem with what you just said. I hope he is a star!!! I just dont like the comparisons of him being called the next Nick Reiwoldt etc. I am not putting him or the club down or cats fans. I am saying to those who are saying outlandish things that it is ridcolous to say those things.GeeCat said:No I have not, hence I haven't made any outlandish comments about him. Naturally I expect him to have sort of game about him, and from then on I simply hope for the best.
You simply assume many haven't seen him play thus begin your tirade of putting down everyone who has seemingly high hopes for him.
I dont know if Nathan is upto it or not. I cant make a comment. It would be stupid to label him as never going to be good or that he is going to be the next Nick Reiwoldt. I agree its not "most" cats fans but there are alot saying stupid unrealistic uneducated things.,GeeCat said:What you posted earlier on in the thread:
You clearly think Nathan is currently not up to it.
Most people may never have seen Nathan play, but then again most people aren't calling him the next Nick Riewoldt. As Phat said earlier on, it was probably only a few who made such claims; far from 'most people' on the board.
