At the moment I wouldn't put Nathan even close to Fev but if he turns out to be as good I'm sure every Geelong supporter will not hesitate to say that Nathan is a champion.

Yeah if he did it every week over a sustained period. Of cuff it is fine, as in

"did you see him on the weekend, 7 goals, what a Champion"

but not labeled as a champion of the game. Don't get me wrong i think Fev is a gun player, very very good. But he is not quiet ready to be put into that Champion bracket along with the games greats.

Incorrect.. no one called him a dud. If you can find that in the posts, go for it.

He had a very average pre-season and has played 2 good games... Its a long, long season.

He had a very average pre-season and has played 2 good games... Its a long, long season.

Pre seasons don't count for much, a lot of players don't stand out in pre season games but produce when the real thing begins, think it would be more accurate to assess him on how he finished last season, and how he's carried that form into the first two games this year.

Who would you use as a comparison when you say you're not expecting him to become "anything more than an average AFL forward at best."

I don't consider myself critical, realistic yes. Stop comparing him with Playfair too. Anyone matches up well against that butter cake. Nathan is 22 this year and needs to show something to even be in our best 22. 3 NAB games, 1 goal 2 behinds... not good enough.

Exactly. For example, in the entire time I've followed Geelong (over 20 years) I believe I've seen only 3 truly great players:

Gary Ablett (senior obviously)
Garry Hocking
Matthew Scarlett

The reason is they maintained top form for year after year. There are plenty of good players who have 1 or 2 great seasons. Sustaining it for 5-10 years is a different story.

Regardless of how many goals he will get by seasons end, id say at his age he has effectively stamped Kent Kingsley out of the side. Geelong could be 5 wins from 6 games this year.

Leaving out Darren Flannigan is a crime which leads me to my next point.

Whilst at the footy, myself and the guys were discussing Selwood and are very worried that when he reads the past greats (on his locker) that have worn the prized No. 14 jumper, he will begin playing nervous footy.

With greats like Koula. Flannigan, David Clarke, etc it will be very hard for the young fella to not get the jitters.

Surely even you must now realize that he is in our best 22. 5 goals from a key forward in his 13th game is what most balanced,knowledged football followers would think was a fairly exceptional game.

nates performances in the last 2 weeks (and during the VFL finals last year) have shown he IS capable of kicking 60+ goals for the year. now that he has the fitness, improved body strength and confidence to play at this level, theres no stopping him.

I was one of the biggest doubters of Nathan's ability or should I say enthusiazum (is that how you spell it) to play the game. But watching him at the end of last season in the VFL finals and this years Nab comp and the of course the 2 games so far this year you would have to say he is now putting everthing he has into it and should be called an exceptional player and one of our best 22.
Lets hope he stays that way

You have the time to file back through my posts obviously.. So go find where I gave my opinion. I have said that I would be wrapped if Nath became a 40+ goal kicker and that is within his reach. Negative to you / realistic to me.
