I've been impressed from Brown this preseason. Other than the early two goals that McEvoy got him his been a defensive brick wall and he seemed to get more involved in the play. his career average of disposals is 8.9 but in shortened games this preaseason he managed to average 11.7.

Is this the year Brown will finally deliver on his top ten pick and grandfinal performances?

I think that when fit he has always been defensively reliable. Like all fullbacks a couple of times a year someone get away with him but he wins most battles.

I'm not sure his increase in possessions is a great thing for the team though, especially if he is on the end of them and kicking. Having said that I would rather him kick it than Frost......

Uh, he already delivered on his draft position by pretty much shutting down Nick Riewoldt in two consecutive Grand Finals to help us win a flag.

Anything else he does from here on out is gravy, but he's a permanent legend to me.

I don't think he's kicking is all that helpful but his handballing is fine. I noticed he got involved in some handball chains where he able to provide an easy out option whilst giving it back to a better kick of the footy. When you get more of the ball automatically your confidence goes up and your opponent starts to worry about you more.

Brown is a key to our structures and set up, by far the best fullback we have on our list. Injuries have killed him since 2012. But he is a rock in defence when fully fit and confident, and we can build our defence around him.

Yeah Browny has had a great preseason, especially those last 2 games.

Led the club in one per-centers by a landslide (21) and had 6 rebound 50's and as you mentioned, I often found himself on the wing getting involved in the play and using the ball better then i'd have assumed, for a bloke that missed basically a whole season, you really couldn't ask for any more in a preseason.

I think he justified his top 10 pick in 2013 when he only had 2 goals or more kicked on him twice, which was the year Ben Reid spent most of up forward, but i think this year in particular if Reid can spend most of the season down back with him, they could build a brutal defense just because of how well they compliment each other when they are both at their best.
In the absence of Maxwell could be the leader down back we've been lacking, from what i could see he's looking a more vocal presence.

From a defense perspective, quite a bit to look forward to this year, should be interesting.

Why do so many people forget about this??? He was awesome in 2013, yet so many people write him off. Frost is decent, but not a patch on a fully fit Brown.

I agree, Ben Reid and Brown can take on a real leadership positions down back, something we lacked last year especially when Maxy went down. I am impressed with Langdon, doesn't seem to panic and can spot up a target and with Seeds potentially coming back to provide some much needed run and carry, it could form a defense that has a real impact this year. Frost will get better with Reid around and a fit Brown.

Most people look at his disposal before looking at the stats of his opponents.
I'd prefer it if he had 5ish disposals, but kept his player goal less for the night.

I'm here to repent. I'm one of those people who have maligned Brown in recent times, too easily forgetting what he's done in the not-too-distant past and also the severity of his injuries. But yeah, he's looked good in the pre-season: sturdy, assured, and a bit determined. Feeling a lotta love for the man right now.

Yes his handballing is quite good. I'm not sure what's wrong with his kicking but he lacks penetration and touch.
And decision making and poise.

Hopefully he stays injury free and leads the backline (with Reid!)

Brown is still the best KPD we have, it's all about him staying fit of course.

With a younger backline this season with the loss of Maxwell, and with Reid and Keeffe no chance to play round 1, he is more important then ever for our defensive structure.

He's probably the only one on our list (except for a fully fit Reid) that can play on monster forwards, Frost and Keefe aren't strong enough (yet?). So I think he's pretty important to our backline structure as a whole

What you waiting for, two exceptional Grandfinal appearances.

The amazing thing was two years before riewoldt cut him up taking 15 marks and kicking five in the semi and he responded beautifully in the two Gf's

Hasn't footy changed. Gone are the days when a coach would say, 'I don't care if you don't get a kick, as long as the bloke you're playing on doesn't'. Can't remember how many times I heard that and other such sayings as a kid playing footy.
