At their best, who was the better, more influential player?

Yes Aker, over the course of his career has been the better playing winning a Brownlow and 3 premiership medallions.

Brown was in career best form until he broke his leg mid 2005(?) and would have no doubt, in the form he was in have won the Brownlow that year.

So which one of these stars, at their best was the better player?

Without question NB has never really got back to his peak after the leg accident. Some say he was never really the same when he left the bulldogs. While the accident has taken a major toll on NB, he still offers himself some what of a medium sized forward for the tigers now days and tends to kick goals when they matter. He can still kick bags of 6 given he has a field day, though NB was better utilized at the dogs than he is now at the tigers

Aker on the other hand was a match winner before his arrival at the western bulldogs. Well known for his speed, skills and accuracy in front of goal, he was definately an asset at the lions as he is now at the dogs. He is past his best, though his accurate set shots from any angle on the ground still makes him a player to be reckoned with. He has done it all, 3 premierships and of course, the brownlow medal.

i don't think you can say ' no doubt ' in terms of the brownlow... the award can be narrowed down to a small number of players each year, whoever wins deserves it, whoever doesn't didnt have umpire voting go their way. being a midfielder helps you 10x more.

i'd say aker, the guy has immense talent and at his best impacted games to his team's way so many times.. he can still do it to this day, albeit not as consistently

The Akaman. See his Brisbane days, and even for the Bullies this year he is showing glimpses that he still has it. Brown is a very good finisher but still, Aka has the runs on the board.

Aka was a key player in 3 premiership sides. Add a brownlow onto that and he was clearly better.

It would have been good to see how good Brown could be had he not got injured.

I reckon Brown's best was against Collingwood in 2005 :D:D:thumbsu:

Richmond were down by a few goals and in the last quarter Browny comes out and kicks 5 miraculous goals in a row to win the game and stick it up all the cocky Pie supporters who thought they had it won!! :D:D

Loved it :thumbsu:

Brown's best only lasted half a season, but bloody hell he was good that year.

Akermanis by 10 light-years. He actually starred in multiple premierships. Brown sold out on the Bulldogs bigtime, for a salary increase and a lucrative property deal. He plays for the pay cheque rather than the jumper. :)

I thought Nathan Brown left for Richmond because he "wanted to play finals?"

nathan brow was great at his best but seriously...aker was a ____ing gun at the lions. the guy would get 25 touches 5 tackles and kick a few goals. add to the fact, he could hit leading forwards with either foot.

Aka thanks.

I actually think Aka is underrated, people forget how good he was at his best. He's still a very handy player now as well.

Brown unfortunately never got to play in a very good side so we didn't see how good he could really be. Aker was a star in a very good side so maybe that inflates his performances a little. Brown towards the end of his Bulldogs career/start of Tigers career was an unstoppable forward.

At his best Aker is one of the best ever; there is no way that Brown even comes close. Having said that Brown is a really good player.

No contest Aker a genuine superstar Brown an outside player with good skills who who left a low profile club so he could lift his own profile.
