Does anyone know how this guy is progessing? Anyone see him play? Considering Eagles have already played his brother, where is Nathan at?

I'm the tiniest bit worried about Nathan.

I saw a post by some guy who played with the Brown boys at TAC Cup level and he said Mitchell would be a gun because he was more determined and this might explain why he was bigger (hit the gym harder).

Could we have been swept up by his AA selection and a really good one-off 20 metre sprint and overlooked Mitch?

Don't be silly. He hasn't even played 1 senior game yet and already you're questioning him from someone's post. C'mon now!!???!? It least form an opinion when u actually see him play.

you better watch it you will end up with an ulcer. what do what him to be john brown already

"Young Nathan B" is finding his feet, I'm confident he will be a player, give him time.

Who cares about his brother (Mitch) as long as Nathan can play 150 senior games for Collingwood, that's all that matters. FWIW, success is judged over an extended period of time, not a few months.

I have commented on this before and have had a view expressed to me by a couple of highly rated juniors who played against him.

Big kid syndrome - he got by on not much talent but big body.

His skills and awareness are very poor.

I too am very worried.

At best I see a presti with big body.

Was hoping to get a champ with one of the top two picks in superdraft 2006.

Brown will not be - Reid will be interesting - bit fraser like - should develop into a multidimensional player.

Brown hopefully might make a solid back

If this is all true this is terrible drafting by the pies. Surely you would think they have learned their lesson and draft somebody with good skills and awareness.

Give the kid a chance!

The main job of a backman anyway is to limit the effect of his opponent and then if he can rebound well, you beauty. See: Jimmy Clement

I wouldn't class Mal Michael as having great skills throughout his career but he would have to be the unluckiest man not to have received AA selection.

Ok how many of you are recruiters? 0... We have full time recruiters who have obviously seen him play over the last few years and aren't just going to draft him for having a "big body". I played against this kid in school footy(and Mitch) in the Herald Shield and to me they were identical in more ways then one. Both were just out n out guns and that was a fairly high standard of footy. Nathan will be a very good player just rememeber he is 18, if he's done SFA when hes 22 23 then start questioning the choice to get him. As for now sit back and enjoy the ride. Also remember how much Rhyce Shaw was payed out in his first 4-5 yrs at the pies. Now he is cleary and elite AFL player. No superstar but can go with the best of them on his day. A gun player is not born overnight.

yes you are all correct. He is no good. Just got picked because he was big. Selected for the under 18s because he had at friend at the club, selected in the under 18s because his dad paid off the coach, made the all australian carnival side because his mums sisters best friend was on the committee, made the tac cup side of the year because his mums sister uncles brother knew the chief selector. Got recruited as a top 10 pick because his unlces brothers aunites neice was friends with someone who used to run the canteen at vic park. Well I am sure you all get the message. You simply do not fluke these acheivements. I have far more faith in our recruiters than I do anyone on here. The kid has barely played a game, give him a bit of time.

Was one of our best players at Willi two weeks back but has unfortunately had a thigh injury the last two weeks. Should be back next Willi game.

This thread is full of absolute nonsense.

I suppose considering that after a trio of decent debuts, Dick, Toovey and Cox were all going to be superstars, it's not surprising that if he hasn't done anything huge in his first 3-4 games for the club, Nathan Brown is going to be a dud.

If he plays a decent game in his next outing, I'm sure everyone will be back on his bandwagon.

if you think that he is going to be a dud you should be sacked from your post as a collingwood moderator, because that not what we do at collingwood, bag our own who ever does is not real

I don't want to speak for Vincent but I think he meant because Nathan hasn't burst onto mthe scene people might think he's a dud, until he does burst onto the scene that is with a cracking game. A VERY good key position prospect is Browny and there's no need to rush him as we're well served by our current defenders, his time will come.

He hasn't played a game yet!! He'll play at VFL level this year and like Toovey, Dick and Cox will be a star and replace Presti up-back.

He's played one VFL game and beat his opponent(s) in defence.

At the time, I said he was encouraging and his fist is where the ball is more often than not, Presti-style. My noted concerns were to do with decision making and poise when the play was stopped (ie. marks / frees). He'll get over that with experience.

Given he's played one VFL game and done well, then got injured, I fail to see why people are freaking out.

I think this thread just shows that the newly drafted players are coming in with more and more expectations every year. I remember when the clubs would draft a player and you wouldn't see him for about 2-3 years no matter where they were picked (naturally there were exceptions to this, but overall the majority got that time to adjust to AFL life/footy). These days it seems that the top round picks (particularly top 10) carry so much more expectations and even though they are coming in to footy better prepared we have to remember that these are young bodies and minds playing in an elite competition. He's a key position player so we need to give him time to develop. I wouldn't write him off at all. This guy will make it and be a solid contributor at worst. Our days of wasting the early round picks are over!

Plus remember that the forums on this website is full of opinions and you don't need to be an expert to have an opinion.
