A couple of articles on Nathan Brown today in the Sun.
One talks about his ability to perhaps kick 80 plus goals and the other about if he will stay or go at the seasons end.
Interesting that Brown says that he has had a few yelling matches with Campbell Rose.

The number of contracts coming up is scary. Brown, Darce, Murph and Guido. Darce and Brown could get $500K+ in any team anywhere, but even Murph could get $300K easy, anyone can see hes going to be a dead set star.

What do you do if you are Murph or Guido, playing for the doggies who could be washed up in 2 years, Darce and Brown have taken up offers elsewhere ... Murphs probably on $100K or something, and collingwood offers you $300K?

But how are these clubs going to free up the money?

No-one has this sort of room in their salary caps, what will Collingwood do, burn Buckley?

Fraser, Lonie, Cloke and esp. Didak will all be looking for more money.

BTW. 6ft of pure silk. I read the title and knew they were talking about Brown.

The pressure is on him a bit now isn't it - it will be interesting to see how he handles the extra expectations and the extra attention from opposition teams. Being the superstar he is I would suggest he can handle it and will go on this year and kick at least 70 goals (regardless of time in the midfield)

Interesting to read about his 'personal' coaching with Wallace - he obviously has a good friendship with the man and its good to see him thinking outside the square a bit to get the most of his footy. I wonder how many other players use that sort of approach? Could it compromise team values?

With regards to the contract issue, I wouldn't blame a lot of the players if they left (although I would be dissapointed) The Club will hit this obstacle when it comes but all we can do is hope that a bit of loyalty and mateship wins out.

i fear Essendon's ability in this regard. With the four guys they traded/delisted at the end of last season, plus Hird being elgible for the vets list next season, they will have opened up considerable space.

I honestly don't think Browny would go just cos of plough. I do think there is a chance he would go for more money though.

Western Bulldogs president David Smorgon has vowed his club will re-sign star players Nathan Brown and Luke Darcy to prove the embattled Bulldogs are still determined to be successful rather than worrying solely about surviving in the competition.

The Bulldogs’ two most valuable players are out of contract at the end of the season and there is already intense speculation the financially-struggling club – which has lost $4.5 million in the past two years and forced players to take a pay-cut of up to 15 percent this season – will be unable to afford to keep them next year.

Former Bulldogs’ coach Terry Wallace recently revealed one of the reasons he left the club just before the end of last season was he believed the club was now solely focused on slashing costs in order to survive in the AFL – rather than trying to win a premiership.

However a fired-up Smorgon – speaking on Melbourne radio station 3AW prior to Sunday’s second round clash against Richmond at Telstra Dome – assured Bulldogs’ fans the club was still trying to win a premiership and would re-sign their champion duo.

“Let me assure all the Bulldogs fans very directly and very matter of factly that players such as Nathan Brown and Luke Darcy and also (young up and comers) Robert Murphy and Daniel Giansiracusa (who are also out-of-contract at season’s end) are obviously required players for the Bulldogs,” Smorgon said.

“We have worked very hard in the past four years to put a team together that is not just capable of playing in the finals but capable of winning a flag, that has been our whole strategy.”

Smorgon said Wallace’s comments about the club now being more interested in survival were “Terry’s excuse for bailing out.”

“I don’t accept that for one iota,” he said.

“We have not gone as he said from worrying about success to survival – that’s his interpretations to justify his actions.”

“We are determined to be successful and that’s what (coach) Peter Rohde is employed for and that’s what those players (who are out-of-contract at season’s end) are employed for and so as far as we are concerned those players will remain with the Bulldogs.”

“It’s not our intention to talk publicly about those negotiations but I don’t have to tell anybody that Luke Darcy, Nathan Brown, Robert Murphy, Daniel Giansiracusa are loyal Bulldogs and they will be in Bulldogs colors for next year and beyond.”

I think in the end Browny and Darce will both stay.

I'd rather be a moderately wealthy ex-star with the respect of the Western suburbs (like Granty) than a very wealthy ex-star with MAYBE a premiership medallion.

What do I know? I'm just a footy fan who loves his club.
