Arguably the 2 best footy brains in the business. Bucks brings intel from his time at Collingwood to share with at the Cattery while he gets to learn principles followed that have instilled a culture that has brought in a high level of consistency across almost 20 years at Geelong that he'll take with him when he's appointed as the Tassie senior coach or some other gig. Win win for everyone involved.

Surely you are taking the piss and don't actually expect him to continue on Fox/SEN?

I think he will continue on fox. The fox contract would be more than an assistant coaches deal under the soft cap. Bucks would never sign on for an assistant coaches wage only, he would be wanting the flexibility to moonlight.

Fox themselves have said he's going to continue on with them.

I think it's pretty obvious that the coaching will be priority 1, he couldn't be on "On The Couch" any more as there is too much of a risk IP wise, I dare say similar to when we had Daisy he will do some special comments on a game a week maybe but a greatly reduced role. He may be a regular guest on Gerards show on SEN (which will work for me as it will trigger the nuffies who claim the Cats media Mafia stuff) but even that would be greatly reduced from what it was as he simply will have a conflict of interest and battle to remain impartial.

Will actually be a loss to the media but I really like the gain for us

Daisy Pearce kept doing media while an assistant with us didn't she?

Daisy and Eddie Betts both did I think but they were different as the AFL footed most of the bill for them and what Geelong paid was outside the soft cap under diversity initiatives. Different in that aspect to Bucks as a full time coach.

I don't recall there being an ITK post about this.
Couldn't talk about it. Hush hush. Heads will roll. But now that it's out of the bag, I always knew about it. I will not say any more about this. Or I might. Probably cant. Then again, I could. But I shouldnt. Maybe I will. Maybe I wont. Who knows. I know. Thats who.

;):padlock::D:greenalien::straining: (these are all cryptic clues to the next big ITK info that's coming out). Decipher them if you dare.

Great in-depth interview with Bucks on Trading Day this evening (on Kayo / Fox).

  • Scott personally contacted him six days ago to get the ball rolling, happened very quickly
  • Bucks speaks extremely highly of Scott and the club as a whole
  • he has replaced King as midfield coach as expected, but said our coaching structure is a bit different and he will play a role across all lines
  • will live in Melb and maybe rent a place in Geelong to stay a couple of nights a week
  • will keep some type of role with Fox, said many clubs wouldn’t be accommodating of this the way we are
  • Baz was the second player today to send him a welcome text, said he’s looking forward to getting to know him ‘away from IG’ 😎

OT a little. I was recently watching the Cats and Woods final where it was Buck's last game. It was very close but Malthouse left Bucks on the bench for the last minutes even though he was having a very good game.

Basically threw the team under the bus due to his jealousy dislike for his marquee player.

Bucks did his hamstring late in that match:

COLLINGWOOD captain Nathan Buckley is expected to announce his retirement by tomorrow night, having tweaked his troublesome hamstring in the preliminary final against Geelong.

Well ok that clears that up. Thanks, But my assessment of MM still stands.

Yep, couldn’t agree more! I have to turn off ABC radio when he comes on - just shocking to listen to and completely clueless about the modern game.

Buckley champion player , magnificent kick and all the rest of it

Can he do something with that Geelong midfield which has fallen to bits in so many big finals including the recent GF

Good footy brain, but not sure how well he connects that to his players. Read somewhere that except for 2018, every year saw the maggies move down the ladder. And let's face it, 2018 was a season of no really good teams

Is this the first time he will be at the cattery for an actual match or did he play down there when he was at the bears?

He played 2 games at KP - both as a Pie (Round 3, 1995 and Round 15, 1999 - which also happen to be the last two times Collingwood played down here). He was part of the losing side both times.

2 games for 2 losses - both were when playing for Collingwood, 1995 & 1999, the last time Collingwood played an official match at KP

Someone's already done the research but since 1999 was the last time Collingwood played at Geelong there was a good chance Bucks had played at Geelong at least once given his relatively good health while in his 20s.

Haha you are right. Was at that 99 game and my dad kept yelling at buckley for getting easy kicks near the boundary. He lost his voice as he had nearly 40 touches that day.
