Haha you are right. Was at that 99 game and my dad kept yelling at buckley for getting easy kicks near the boundary. He lost his voice as he had nearly 40 touches that day.

37 touches and 2 goals - and didn't get a Brownlow vote.

Good footy brain, but not sure how well he connects that to his players. Read somewhere that except for 2018, every year saw the maggies move down the ladder. And let's face it, 2018 was a season of no really good teams
Clearly off topic but Richmond were the clear standout in 2018.

I think what Scott has done in reaching out to Buckley is extremely smart. He will be a huge benefit, and not just in coaching.

It goes beyond that. He is well respected by the football world and by the media.

Could be a tassie prep or could turn out to be an audition to replace c scott
Tassie put out a statement speaking about the appointment, so it seems that there is already some kind of established relationship there.

I think it's probably to get his head back into coaching prior to taking that job, which is a good move on his part. That's not to say it's bad for us. A guy with senior coaching experience, who coached his side deep into finals, is a useful asset to have. It's especially encouraging to see we've replaced a highly-experienced assistant coach in King with someone who also has a wealth of experience. It should mitigate the ill effects of a transition between the two and hopefully Bucks can help to bring some new ideas to the group. He and Scott are two pretty huge coaching personas to have side by side.

The plus for us is that Bucks brings a wealth of football knowledge and experience, and some IP into the way the Carringbush go about their football.

However, it’s a real coup for Benny Gale as it facilitates Bucks getting back into the swing of club football. In the process, he picks up a heap of IP about how we go about our football. Hopefully, he doesn’t get too close to our talent both on and off the park - sign up Nigel Lappin.

I’d be mightily pissed off if it allowed him to continue his media career. You’re either in or out.

How about a new conspiracy about the GFC? I'll put it out t here since the usual suspect have dried up as far as new material goes.
Scott is going to groom and brainwash Buckley into the Geelong way, and when he eventually goes to Tassie he'll make sure its a feeder/developmental team for the Cats. :winkv1:

We already sent Worpel into Hawthorn as a KGB style sleeper agent 8 years ago.

Might as well try it with a coach this time.

Buckley champion player , magnificent kick and all the rest of it

Can he do something with that Geelong midfield which has fallen to bits in so many big finals including the recent GF
The Geelong midfield of Smith, Holmes and Atkins that have only been together for one season? That smashed Brisbane and Hawthorn in finals before being smashed themselves in the big one? You have a bizarre definition of "so many".

AFL.com.au's Cal Twomey reported on Continental Tyres AFL Trade Radio that Buckley's role at Geelong was a full-time job, but there was likely still scope for him to continue to do some media work with Fox Footy.
It is to our advantage if a lot of the top movers and shakers are GFC Alumni. Greases the skids

Agree. With each setback (media missteps, losing Kingy as Assistant Coach), we just don't try to break even. We look at it as an opportunity to surge ahead.

Have to say very curious with this appointment in terms of input by Buckley and his ability to see things that our coaches have been missing.

Interesting in light of Buckley's record against Scott - was pretty good right up to the end, right?

Good to get an outsider in. I do wonder if they'll also look to add someone recently retired ala Grigg - maybe take Corrigan's role if he jumps to the Pies.
Grigg has already been with us before. Think he ran home to Dimma up at the Suns.
Geelong’s IP has the longevity of a ripe Haas avocado.

Constantly evolving.
Eww. Yuck.

Just that you know that tells me you're one of those guac loving weirdos.

“So many”?

2024 PF - I’d suggest our midfield was on top in that game. Forwards did not convert.

2023 - no finals.

2022 - flag.

2021 - midfield of Dangerfield, Selwood, Guthrie, Duncan and Smith.

Don’t be ridiculous.

I think this appointment should be good for Buckley. Not so sure how good it will be for us. Never been a big fan. Seems kinda self-important.
Yes, I’m with you. Not sure yet. Will wait + watch 🤷🏻‍♀️

As stated + I’m open minded, which area will he work in as assistant coach? Position coach or development coach?

As Buckley is likely to be Tasmanian coach, I am speculating the position at Geelong is to learn from Chris Scott.

Or perhaps both?
