Nathan Buckley to win the Brownlow Medal

Nathan Buckley would win it, except he'll be made ineligible due to a one week suspension for striking Tyson Stenglein.

The AFL haven't awarded him the medal when he's been more deserving so why would that change now? We'll have to see how Malthouse decides to use him next year before making predictions. After all, Malthouse is coaching Collingwood, not Buckley and if he finds it more useful to play Buckley in positions where he may not get votes, that's his call.

I'm tipping Josh Francou to go one step further than last year.

I dont mind Bucks, hed be a worthy winner of THAT medal, not like the recent one he disresected

What is it with people saying he disrespected it?
I would the exact same thing and believe it or not, YOU probably would too. You are feeling low as sh*t, bitter, unhappy etc and what he did was a spur of the moment.

Imaging yourself getting the medal in a losing side and walking back to your teammates who have nothing. We were in it together. It was very symbolic. We were after the Premiership, not an individual feat.

There still is such a thing as being a graciou loser and accepting runners-up or other consolation awards with good grace is part of that. I hope Malthouse gave Bucks a rocket. When he refused his medal it was like Collingwood was saying "f*ck you we didn't win and we don't want your patronising medals."
But at least Collingwood haven't sunk any lower in my estimation, it's impossible to go any lower than bottom.

I usually respect your posts but that is crap.

Here we have a player who has gone through his whole career winning everything in sight on a personal level and the one day he has the chance to win whats really important from a teams perspective he is slapped in the face with yet another meaningless personal award in the context of team success.

That moment when he was announced to win the Normie was one of the worst feelings Ive ever felt at the football. If you can't see why he did it and think 'thats fair enough' you're not a very good football follower IMO.

Pat Rafter has come close to winning Wimbledon a few times and has only made it to runner up. He has said Wimbledon drives him (like Buckley is driven by a premiership).

In front of the whole world Rafter has shown hes a man of class by the way he handled himself.

IMO Buckley made himself look like a tool.

Its not what happens to you that is important, Its how you react to it!

I understand why he done it; but there are [as someone else said] ...gracious losers

A Norm Smith Medal IS NOT a slap in the face

For removing the medal from his neck?
It's not like he at any time said anythjing disparaging or even anything that was not the listest bit ingracious.

Actions speak louder than words and no one in the stadium or at home watching on tv could be mistaken by Buckleys attitude to the award.

Get ya hand off it. And get your facts straight, he didnt refuse the medal at all. Or was I watching another grand final'

He is allowed to be human you know.

Yeah!

I think Buckley's feelings were very understandable; his is, after all human. What he chooses to do about those feelings is his choice, but personally, I thought his behaviour was a bit immature and petulant, particularly given his role as one of the more senior team members, and captain.

Unless Buckley was agreeing with the assessment of many pundits, myself included, that Voss should have received the medal, then I thought his action was churlish. In the vernacular... a damn good dummy spit! ;)

Oooops, by the way, I'd be disappointed if, at this time of year, Buckley wasn't tipped to win the Brownlow... like Collingwood hoping to win every losing GF they contest, it makes it all the sweeter when it fails to eventuate... :D

Buckley is perenially given the favourite status. 2003 may be his year, but there are so many to look out for. Personally i'd love to see Cuz get up, but little Daniel Kerr could be the bolter from the West.

Idiots.

See James Hird the year before on how to be an ungracious Loser.

You just contradicted yourself!
You call everyone idiots for saying that Buckley was ungracious and then you do the same thing by going and bagging Hird for allegedly being ungracious.
