No I mean LOST, for many a reason. As Ive said I hope we can remedy that this year.

I guess there's clearly 2 ways to look at it.

a) Malthouse was distracted/upset/whingey about being ousted and couldn't concentrate on coaching and it just all round destabilised the club.

Which is probably all true. So you're right, we did LOSE a flag because of it.

b) After 11 years of f**k all, and recruiting like a stingy dick, the succession plan forced him to get off his arse, recruit for a flag, and actually coach for one, and we won the 2010 flag.

Even Maxwell on GameDay during 2011 said he wasn't sure we would have won the flag in 2010 if it wasn't for the succession plan "Would Mick be coaching the way he is? I'm not sure" or words to that effect.

So you could argue we won AND lost a flag because of the succession plan. Which I'll take. Having said that, the succession plan had more an indirect affect on that flag defence.

Because ultimately, it was Mick who CHOSE to make it a distraction. He could have just as easily not allowed it to get to him, as opposed to, you know...acting like a 60 year old man baby.

Bit harsh. If it were not for the Brisbane Lions who fielded one of the greatest teams of all time due to salary cap concessions we would have another 1-2 premierships. Just missed another GF on 07 which we would have won not to mention numerous finals appearances during that period.

In hindsight there are many things which could have been done differently but thats history now.

Was talking abotu this with someone the other day.

Just a dash more luck in the last decade, combined with some smarter recruiting and we could have actually had 5 flags.

Recruiting Pavlich and Fraser instead of Fraser and McKee (and Danny Roach).

Playing Jarrod Molloy in 03, although having Pavlich would have rendered that pointless.

Recruiting Stevie J instead of listening to a medico about his ankle.

Giving Richmond pick 10 for Ottens instead of picking up Spud Egan.

But even if we take away the recruiting:

- 3 umpiring decisions go our way instead of Brisbanes in 02, we win

- Rocca doesn't raise his f**king elbow in the 03 prelim, I still think we would have won the GF.

- 07. Prelim goes for 1 more minute

- 11. Mick doesn't take a list full of crippled players, and actually enforces the 2010 version of the press instead of whatever we were doing throuought 11.

Hes a third year player.
I was not aware he played in 2010?
Apologies.

I'll rephrase.
Like any player with 13 games under his belt he may well fall away for a season next year.
In fact the odds are he will.
The odds are also in favor of him rebounding the year after better than ever. ;)

Having rephrased it, youre wrong.

There is no reason a third year player should go backwards, apart from injury and opportunity. There in fact is every reason to think a player in his fourth year will be improved on hsi third year....Sidebottom and Beams as cases in point.

A fourth year player has more chance of impriving o his third year than going backwards.

Well almost half the season gone so perhaps time to look at results so far.

8 and 2 sitting equal top of the table with half the first team out - sensational effort.

Sinclair injected and persevered with and now showing why - insightful selection

Goldy moved forward and providing important forward pressure and goals - good move.

Off field

Showed his class with handling of the Malthouse whinge

Great article about Bucks from Paul Roos

AS IMPOSSIBLE as it may seem, Collingwood has managed to fly under the radar this season.
It is the highest-profile club in Australia, with the largest membership, the best-known president and is coming off successive Grand Final appearances, having won in 2010. It has won seven of its nine matches.

Yet it is creating barely a ripple. The reason is Nathan Buckley.

I couldn't love Bucks more.

He has been outstanding and he has a very good collection of coaches with him which he is leading well,I am happier now with the coaching of Collingwood than at any time since 2010 season just keep it up and I am happy.:thumbsu:

I like the most that he changes things up regardless of what's happening on field.

We're losing? He'll make moves to try and turn the tide.

We're winning? He'll still experiment to see where we can find an edge. Even yesterday I saw him completely turn the forward line upside down because of how poorly our key forwards were converting (or playign in general with Dawes).

In the second half and especially the last quarter, our forward line was a lot smaller.

It was nice to see.

Reading between the lines a little it's hard not to think that Roos' comments about Collingwood loving being Collingwood isn't a thinly veiled whack at Malthouse as much as it's praise of Bucks. The suggestion being that Mick was a big part of that culture at least as much as Ed and that Bucks has changed that perception over night. Can't help but wonder what kind of reception Roos will get from Mick next time they cross paths.

I think the media's love affair with Bucks has got as much to do with him NOT being Mick as it does for his straight forward handling of the media.

No meaningless meandering pressers, no bullshit about Roman legion tactis, just clear concise and straightforward answers.

Bump.

Another toast to Nathan for a job well done to the halfway mark.

All the opposition supporters that were licking their lips and ready to feast on Bucks' carcass after Round 3 are nowhere to be seen or heard.

As annoying as all the injuries have been, it's shown the footy world one thing ...........we have the right man at the helm. :thumbsu:

I've got a guy on FB who constantly bags Nathan.

Gets really annoying when he has had all these injuries yet we are 9-2 and on top of the ladder but he still gets no credit from this so called Pies supporter.

Great job Bucks:D:thumbsu: I for one wanted you as coach as I know your gonna be a success.

The man i trust more than anyone is eddie.I thought it would work, and so far it is. Eddie just wants what is best for collingwood,he is diehard, knows bucks is too and wants collingwood to succeed more than anyone. If he had any doubt about nathan i can tell you he sure as hell wouldn't be coach.

Eddie is a good bloke. Shoots his mouth off but in the end he has steered the Pies in a right direction.

Buckley did inherit a good list unlike Voss or Hidr, but he's saying and doing all the right things unlike...well Voss at least.

He also has balls to debut players on touch matches and sticks with them. I like that a lot. I also like the move on Goldsack which I called for years on here and was laughed at the suggestion lol

Great article on the Collingwood website about Bucks' start to coaching:

http://www.collingwoodfc.com.au/newsfeatures/news/newsarticle/tabid/5586/newsid/138675/default.aspx

This part caught my eye, Bucks is ranked equal second for best starts to a coaching career after 11 rounds in Collingwood history. Considering how people were writing him off after the first few rounds and saying we should have kept Malthouse, this is an amazing statistic.

As the Magpies enjoy a rare weekend off with a well-earned bye, it is interesting to look at how Buckley the coach has fared when compared to other debut Collingwood coaches from their first 11 matches. And the answer is, very favourably.

Buckley’s nine wins from his first 11 games - at almost 82 per cent - ranks as equal second in the long line of Collingwood coaches since Bill Strickland became the first man to take on the role during the 1904 season.

We are so lucky to have such a champion of the game as our coach, and I have no doubt that we will have multiple premiership successes with Bucks.:thumbsu:
