Was watching a DVD of season highlights and interviews, previews etc. last night (thanks re cat BTW ;)) and noticed that Bomber was actually naming Djerrkura in the same sentence as Selwood prior to the Bulldogs game in Round 1 as being a possible debutant. Don't think that since then he was even named as an emergency for the seniors, and if he has, it hasn't been more than 4 or 5 times.

I know he had quite a few injuries through the season, mainly hamstring and quad injuries, but I was wondering what the opinion of everyone here is. Do you think he could get a regular senior spot in 2008, and make an impact for us, and if so, who's spot would he take? I'd hazard a guess and say it will be between him, Varcoe and Byrnes for the second small forward spot, as I think it's safe to say Stokes has the other one sewn up.

The best way to describe him IMHO is varcoe, with attitude and better disposal. Very slick and hard to catch. He loves the hard stuff, and puts his body on the line.

Would love to se ehim as a running HBFer who can go forward.

Agree with above although I liken him more to Stokes with more pace.
Was never in the hunt this season due to injury, and when he did was never really fit.
Will be in the midfield rotations this year and eventually replace someone like Wojcinski in a couple of years.

Doubt he will be a regular in 2008. His quad problems this year basically set him back a year and although he classy, I'm not sure he can match it with Selwood. Should get a run for a half a dozen although it is highly depenedent on injuries - both to him and others.

Don't get me wrong when i say this, because i love Selwood, but Jerka has way more X-Factor.
i agree with you, when nathan gets fit and plays a couple of years consistently, he will be in the best 22 and i'm making the call now.........he could very well be a geelong captain one day!!!

definately leadership material if you guys hear him speak and the way he carry himself.

I'm a massive fan of this bloke, have been since pre-season this year. Just love the way he goes about his footy.

Some of what we saw in the NAB Cup was sensational (the one handed pick up in the wet in Darwin for instance).

I would imagine he'd come in to replace Shannon on a HFF. Our small forwards would then be Stokes, Djerrkura, Chapman and Varcoe with SJ also being a roving forward.

Looking forward to watching Djiddy in 2008.

Saw a bit of this guy in the under 18's championships gonna be a star lets hope he can break into your strong side hard to see a spot for him in such a talented midfield lets hope he can. It would be a shame if football fans didn't get to see him show his stuff in the big game

i believe he will start off as a varcoe type forward pocket player for a year or two before getting a permanent run in the midfield.

In all honesty if he had've come back from injury a couple of weeks earlier (played the prelim and GF I think) then he would've been considered along with Varcoe for the spot that went to Monty. An injury free preseason will see him in for the NAB Cup and from there he could start to impact virtually straight away. It's not only his pace and skill but just his hardness at the contest needs to be seen to be believed. He's a human pitbull!!

He is as quick as Varcoe, but is stronger, has more confidence and reads the play better. His tackles tend to stick and they hurt

He's quicker and more skilful than Byrnes, and obviously he is bigger than Stokes but I think Stokes is the smartest player of all those 4

He'll start in the forward line but maybe as he gets better will move back to be Johncock/Wirrapanda type player (sorry to stereotype, but that is how I see his style)

I don't think he'll be a regular...but if he can stay fit I would put him in ahead of Varcoe or Byrnes. The description of 'Stokes with more pace' is very apt - very physical player, will do all the 1% like Stokesy. One instance in the VFL GF stands out when Varcoe attempted to rip the ball off a prone Coburg player whilst keeping his feet. Didn't accomplish it, turnover on the cards, until Djerrkura screamed in from nowhere, smashed into the guy, and won the ball.

There has been likings of him being the next Byron 'choppy' Pickett...lets hope so but at the same time let him get over his injuries and not put to much pressure on the kid !!....unlike Tomahawk.

I saw that too, and I think it sums the two of them up perfectly.

Varcoe tries to snatch the ball and spin out of the pack, but leaves it behind and ends up 5m away looking on. If he pulls it off it looks spectacular, but he didn't. Djiddy on the other hand runs straight and hard at the pack and smashes into it, knocking players over left, right and centre. Hard, tough, body-on-body stuff.

You got to love Djiddy. I wouldn't call him Stokes with pace - not that Stokes shirks at all, but Djiddy is much, much more physical in style. He's basically a human wrecking ball. I think the closest description of him using our senior side at the moment is Rooke with pace. Pickett and Archer are also good comparisons.

But I think there's also a place for the Varcoe approach as well. Reminds me of Wells from the Roos. He'll never be a hard nut, but he'll get better and more consistent at his own game as he gains experience, and will be a fantastic part of our side. He has a very, very long way to go, but I think in time he could even be an extremely damaging Shaun Burgoyne type player. He's shown glimpses of it.

I agree with that 100% varcoe is more an outside player (although not as weak as the lonies) that will do the occassionally special thing. I hope he can one day become a mcleod type player where he links up and uses his run. Mcleod is a freak though so 1/2 his talent and we will be happy.

Djerkurra will be a great player. Great pace, agility, strength, endurance, all coupled with exquisite skills and smarts. He can play both as an extractor and a runner. X-factor a plenty.

I really rated Nathan coming into the year and thought after last year we might see him in your side a fair bit this year. I obviously wasn't counting on the turn around from basically your whole side. I hope to see him in action next year.

On a side point does anyone know if he is continuing with his art? I saw an ABC (?) program on him at the end of last year and some of the art work that he had done was very good. He is very talented and I think he could also make a name for himself in this area.

I'm a fan as well, I think he'll be better than Varcoe (and I think Varcoe will be pretty damn good).
