Everwhere I look I hear that he is absolutely on fire at training. Could this super-fast, in-and-under, mongrel player with excellent skills be the next elite midfielder for the Richmond line up?

That was in July.

This is mid-December.

Excuse me for starting a new thread! ;)
I think he deserves it, don't you?

My thought have not changed.

I like Foley. He's a goer.

Edit: Btw this thread is more about the expectation for 2007 rather than saying "I like this boy", what should be his goals for next year? Regular 25+ possie games?

  • Become a regular best 22 players.
  • Spend most of the game on the ground.

Then start to focus on getting 25+ touchs.

imagine if we had a scott west around to help the kid

i reckon the more gametime he gets those little 10 metre kicks out of the packs will be finished and he will learn to handball and really set it up for us in the middle

compare him to krakouer and you can tell which one of them gives a stuff :thumbsu:

none needed it stands out like dogballs foley will be a star, krakouer gone if attitude doesnt change

maybe its rose coloured but i think this kid could be anything maybe the best of all our young blokes

Could not agree more. Even to See foley out run Deledio a few times at training yestuday was good to see. I am looking forward to seeing him get more game time in 2007 and the years to come.

lol at the peter bell comparison, yeh there both short so lets compare them

foley is a clearance player while bell eats up the loose possesion

i know which type of player we desperately need and it aint bell :thumbsu:

West is a classic centerman who generally keeps his feet. Foley is a classic rover whose main strenght is his ferocious determination and willingness to fling himself on every loose ball, hunt every tackle and spend half a game with his forehead buried in dirt.

Peter Bell used to be like that and still can be - not so much now he is getting on in years - and they have Josh Carr for the job. West was rarely like that - you don't waste your gun by getting him to play like that, you get Romero, Dimmatina, Liberatore for those jobs.

Foley is the player we have been missing since Tony Free and Chris Bond. Duncan Kellaway tried it for a year or two but his body gave way. Clinton King was actually OK for a single season. Fleming had the grunt but it hurt us as much as helped us. Sziller couldn't get the footy.

Still need your Brett Kirk, Steve Baker, Chad Fletcher, Tyson Edwards type. If anything I see Foley as being most like Edwards in time.

Foley is interesting in that he is a fierce in and under player with fantastic ball feeding skills and vision, but unlike West OR Bell, can also sprint free of a pack, burn off all opponents, and when he lines up a target in the forward 50, you can mark it as an effective pass before he has even kicked it.

The break free and run thing he does is more like Judd than any other.

A few weeks before his much publicised 47 possession game for Coburg, I mantioned on here that I thought he would be a gun. I even mentioned Bronwlow in the paragraph. I also appointed myself as president of his fan club.

Brownlow? Well i did that for attention value but everything else I said about him I stick to.

Are people not concerened that Foley is yet another midfielder with questionable disposal, particularly penetration, by foot.Comparrisons with King while accurate, make me shudder.

Don't get me wrong,I like the little guy. He's tenacious and the ability to get alot of the pill is a rare commodity. But if we are to compete with the top clubs Weagles Crows etc we really are going to have to develop some guys who get alot of ball AND can hit targets over distance (a la,Judd,Kerr Cousins,Embley)

If you look at potentially our starting midfield going forward it consists of Tuck, Coughlan,Foley and Polo- all guys with question marks over disposal. You can perhaps get away with 1,maybe 2 (as the Dogs do with West) but all 4 is a stretch in my view.If Pattison is their ruck, this will just exacerbate the problem.

Foley comparrisons with Bell aren't too far off the mark. But Bell has shown to be a consistently good user of the ball. over the years.

My hope is that guys like Deledio,Tambling and a couple out of Meyer,Casserly and Edwards are where our future lays with developing a quality, fast and good disposing ,outfit.
