Our little pocket dynamo cannot seem to overcome his injuries, and biasness aside is one of the better clearance midfielders in the comp when fully fit. Also he is a free agent, so he may end up walking (being told to walk) to another club.

I was wondering what you guys think wouold be appropriate compensation if this was the case.

I believe 1x End of First rounder (~ #21) and 1x Mid Second Rounder (~ #34)

If he isn't offered a new contract by Richmond and joins another club thru free agency, there will be no draft compensation. If Richmond is outbid by another club, the compensation will be .....? (guesswork:confused: ). Although the compensation formula has not been disclosed, it has been stated the the compensation will be significantly lower than the compensation given for losing a player to an expansion club.
It will most likey be based on a similar method to the expansion extablishment compensation. Ie; Salary + "club best & fairest position" + draft position (if recently drafted)

Your compensation estimate is VERY optimistic. If I was to guess at the compensation for Foley if another club poached him, it may be a single pick at the end of second round.

Thank you for the input. :thumbsu:

I can't see Richmond not offering a new contract ... also can't see us giving him a 'push' .. but we as a club need to take risks to move forward.

I'd settle for a single pick, if it was mid 2nd round, injuries will ruin that hope.

What about a Pears/Hooker trade for Foley?? Give Essendon another midfielder, Richmond a key defender.

Might work for both clubs
I really like foley, but what exactly are his injuries?
Also if he were to end up at essendon, he would come through free agency, so the above trade is moot.
Although I do agree in principle with the idea of trading a kpd for a midfielder, but I think we would be wise to package pears/a pick and say lonergan to get something really good, we have the supporting cast, we just need that other star to help watto

1 x 1st Round Pick & 1 x 2nd Round pick for a player who in your own words cannot get on the park due to injuries? How about we just give you those picks for nothing?

That seems to be what a lot of people say. I don't believe it's necessarily the case.

Sure, Hooker isn't going to tear sides apart with footskills any time soon, but he's a solid last line defender, and has a pretty solid record over the past year or two.

I believe he would fill a very, very good role for Richmond, allowing Rance & Grimes a bit mroe freedom, and Griffiths to go forward.
Let alone GC.

pears has been injury riddled, but they've been basically freak accidents.
Broken Arm, Foot, Pancreas, He's had to learn a totally different running gait.
IF either richmond or gold coast end up with him, they will not be disappointing, in 2009 he was beating the best forwards in the game.

No chance we'd give up Foley and #19 for Carlisle! Must be joking!
And considering we no longer have that compensation pick it's a moot point.

We traded the Bock compo pick to GC for a pick in the 20s(Elton) and the compensation pick Port received for losing Krakeour (sp?) which I believe is tied to Port Adelaide and where they finish on the ladder and will come directly after there second round pick.

He's had achilles problems in '09 and '10 but played 22 games last year. Re-injured it at training about a month ago.

Agreed. I reckon if his body was to hold up, he could be a terrific addition to the bombers midfield. Would be disappointing to see him go though after the club has him a lot of support and patience. Reckon The Weapon's training regime might just push his achilles a tad.
