Would have loved for him to be running at full tilt and at least pushing for a debut by now, but after the setbacks this year I'm just glad he's making it through games at the moment.

Will be pretty disappointed if he can't get through a pre season and be going at 100% by round 1 next year though.

I'm not sure you can say we overpaid for him when he's been at the club for 12 months with a disclosed injury issue that is being addressed by the medicos.

If he doesn't get on the park in the next year or so it'd be looking less likely but anything thrown out now is pure pessimism.

Even to say at the time we paid overs is incorrect as was a top 10 draft pick as for what people said on here and on ss, pffft

Why pay a second round draft pick for a bloke who can't play for 12 months. We could of just got him as a delisted FA

If he was offered a contract by Collingwood, (which he was) and he refused to sign instead of being delisted, he wouldn't have been able to be picked up as DFA.

Roberton and Membrey were delisted by their sides for compassionate/understanding reasons.

Freeman would have been a different situation.

it probably makes more sense if you did it over a range of picks , like 30-35 .
I went through the exercise once comparing earlier picks to later.
I goes sort of flat after a certain level .
Also it depends on the draft. Each draftee is a unique individual.

Pick 30 2005 could have given Sam Gilbert, or Bernie VInce or Andrew Swallow.
2006. Kurt Tippett, Todd Goldstein or Bachar Houli
2007 Greenwood, Reid,Scott Thompson, or Jack Steven
2008 Steven Motlop, Rory Sloane, Rhys Stanley, Shane Savage, Liam Shiels
2009 Max Gawn, Sam Reid, Dylan Roberton.

The prizes are still there in the later picks , its just harder to find them.

Yeah I remember they had a statistic in the paper a few years ago with percentage chance of making 100 games and the further out in the draft you were picked the less chance you had of making 100 games -outside picks in the 30s it fell to a really low number. A top ten pick had a very high chance of making 100 games like 70% or something but out in the forties it fell down to single figures. It's probably a bit to do with the investment clubs make and pride means they will nurse them through. Jack Watts wouldn't have made 50 games if he'd been a pick 30 for example.

In hindsight it looks a fail but while he's on our list there is still hope it's not a bust.

Because if you have a chance to get a top 10 quality draft player for a pick in 30s dont you take it... its like having an acadamy player and only having to use later picks on him.. you just pull the trigger and do it... Some top end TAC cup kids come with injuries too but talent is talent. Recruiters sometimes have to take the risk.
I was thinking today look at what Paddy is producing after being injured every 3 weeks. Imagine what he would be doing if he was playing 20 games a year for the last 2 seasons... We used pick 1. You know what players we could have got for that.
Im not saying hes a bust. Far from it but injury after injury after injury just cant string games together. That was pick 1 ffs.
Im not worried about pick 30ish 2016. If we really wanted we could trade back for that pick anyway.

Can't believe u would be criticising Paddy....have a look at Patton for GWS. Key forward, top draft pick, far worse injuries than Paddy, hardly played for 2 years & now starting to blitz....6 goals today was it? Be patient FFS

I wasnt criticizing paddy. I was pointing out that worrying about him getting to 100 games considering the injuries he keeps receiving and that its a way bigger worry than what happens with Freeman that only cost pick 30. Who still might come good. Its happened before with us.

Perhaps he played a quarter or so yesterday and will play a half or more today? Guess we'll find out.

I found Freeman's doppleganger!
