Yep thats bad news although this gives some hope.

NATHAN Freeman's AFL career is on hold again with the luckless St Kilda midfielder suffering yet another hamstring setback that may require surgery.

Freeman, 23, will miss a period of the pre-season after reporting soreness last Friday during a training session.

A decision will be made this week about whether an operation to clean up scar tissue is the best course of action.

"Nathan has done a huge amount of work with our medicos and conditioning team over the summer to reach the level needed to play AFL football," football manager Simon Lethlean said.

"Friday's injury, while relatively minor, suggests there could be an underlying issue with scar tissue that is preventing him from reaching his full capacity.

"Nathan will consult a specialist this week, but regardless of whether surgery is the preferred option, the recovery period is expected to be the same as a conventional rehab program.

"It's hoped he will only miss a few weeks of work on the track, where after he can then find a level of continuity with training and playing games that creates a platform to push for AFL selection."

Freeman, who has endured hamstring issues since he was drafted by Collingwood with pick No.10 overall in the 2013 NAB AFL Draft, returned to Germany for a second time last November to seek expert help.

At least it’s isnt major I guess

A big blow to Freezer but hopefully can still come back at make an impact. I still believe despite all the injury troubles he was worth the risk (for a second rounder) and if he does ever reach his full capacity he will add another dimension to our midfield.

This actually might be a good thing. I remember reading another player with a big history of hammies, just couldn't get on the park. In the end it clicked it was the scar tissue causing the problems. They removed it and he was good.

Sometimes it takes ages just to correctly diagnose the problem.

Or it's just the club spinning it again.

I have found "freezer" fail to lighten the mode.

Very sad to hear the news having only spoken to him at the player sponsors bbq a couple weeks ago and getting the feeling that he was progressing ok.
Let's hope he can get back on the park ASAP

Reckon he will never get on thw park.

Tried hard but the hammies keep pinging.

Reckon will be delisted at year end.

Worthwhile risk but just not up to it.

Unfortunately that's probably the most likely outcome. Xavier Clarke was the same, just extremely unlucky with injury. I heard Boomer Harvey on the radio saying he'd never had a single soft tissue injury in his whole career, his dad played until he was ancient and was the same. Seems like it's a totally unfair genetic thing with Freeman unfortunately.

You'd think that Professor Hans Grüber from Germany would have contemplated this though? It's the second time he's gone to see him.

Harves was pullin' their leg then. He had plenty. The plantar fascia story is the best though. Jumped off a table and snapped it himself ON PURPOSE!
