James Begley would have to be in the conversation. Remember stupid Tim Watson said he was our next captain and thought he'd be a superstar. His crowning achievement at anything in life was being a Cleo batchelor of the year from memory. Can't actually recall him playing Adelaide. Must have been good.

Probably didn't help that his best mate was killed in the Bali bombings.

Yep because they weren't good enough.
Don’t agree, lots of players get pushed out when they were obviously good enough. A lot of the guys from that era are probably unlucky not to be StKilda immortals. We were injury and mental collapse off those guys being premiership heroes. A few were lost through new coaches wanting to build their own lists and the players getting the blame for poor on field results.

Then they would have been at another club unless of course you see something in them that another 14 or so clubs experts didn't see.

I wonder how many players get pushed out or can’t impose their talent due to clickiness??
This is an interesting one.... my cousin was on two afl lists, playing a handful of games. His father said the clubs really pushed the players to socialise together, and I took it he felt that the fact my cousin didn’t click and had his own group of friends held him back.

Not sure that was the case... but interesting anyway.

Yeah, I get to a few club events and it's funny how they gravitate towards cliques. Some guys just all bond together. Acres was hanging with Tom Lee, Holmes, Pierce, Farren Ray etc when he first got to the club but seems to have now joined the main group of lads that Bruce seems to be the spiritual leader of. I was worried that Acres might feel displaced once a big group of his friends all went. Newnes, Billings, Lonie, Paddy, Membrey, Bruce etc all seem pretty tight. It's a lot like a school yard though from looking at it with some guys looking like they aren't as included for what ever reason. The older family guys all seem to not give as many ****s and just do their own thing.
