Update on his injury from the club.

Freeman is now running at 85% speed. No real update on timeline given last week but now he is 4-5 weeks away..

Clearly they're being cautious but pleasing to see.

You see this confuses me.
The Saturday morning before Easter I see Freeman running laps at TBO prior to the practice match.
3/4 pace and very smooth.
Completely uninhibited.
Now he’s running at 85% pace, 10 or so days later.
So where is the drama coming from?
At this rate, he’ll be 100% on 19/04/18.

Couldn't agree more with this assessment. When Nathan moved to the saints he was a physical basket case, but you plot his achievements in the subsequent years and it's almost continual improvement with only the odd hiccup along the way. (some fools like to include Armo falling on him relevant to the issue) For mine, he gets this year and one more on the rookie list if need be.

Maybe after all the previous setbacks they're just playing it real safe.

Say it's 6 - 8 weeks and if he's ready earlier that's a bonus and everyone gets a bit of a buzz?

Or say it's 3 - 4 weeks and then if he doesn't play in that timeframe everyone gets pissed off and starts accusing the club of not telling the truth etc?

Maybe that's all this is.

Good point.

Club should announce the Road to 2047 immediately.

He has always been able to run 85%, its the extra 15% that causes the pinging to occur.

Has done so for three years

The odd hiccup? He has played not one senior game and a few reserves games in what will be 2 and a half years before he plays again.

Yes, the odd hiccup. And sorry, but "games played" (especially zero games) is definitely not a relevant measure of a persons ability to recover from a chronic condition.
He came to the saints in a broken state as a fixer-upper for a relative bargain. He may yet turn out to be a complete bust, but based what he has achieved to date, and the fact the club extended his contract, I'd suggest he's tracking within an acceptable deviation from club projections.
He probably would have debuted last year if someone hadn't landed on his ankle. Anyway, I still think his situation is..............positive.

If I was St Kilda I would sign the guy for another 2 years ,( he is not even 23 yet ) if he comes good we will have a guy who could play for another 7 yrs.
Sydney have had Johnson on there books for years , most probably knowing he will never get back to his best due to ACL problems.
And who cares if we have one spot on the list taken , we most probably have a few more guys worse than Freeman on it.

Not saying we shouldn't but the difference is Freeman has never played AFL.
Even if his injury issues get completely fixed he may still be useless when he steps up to AFL
