There was a similar amount of build up and melt occurring on BF a few years ago when all us experts thought Curren was the elite VFL all star and was being criminally left out.
He went on to become a 300 game AA Brownlow premiership player.

This is THE number 1 feel good story.
Even if he never proves good enough to play another game (hopefully not the case) the sheer determination, perseverance and grit this kid has shown makes it imperative that he gets his chance. It’s not like he’s been terrible at vfl level either and it’s not like we have anything to lose.
 
Wonder if he’ll get a contract extension if he gets injured and/or doesn’t play a game before years end.

Most have said if he doesn’t play he doesn’t deserve an extension, but now it seems he’s deserving of selection but not getting selected.

Would be a huge shame if he doesn’t play a game and then gets delisted.

Or he is vindicated for developing him to the point he gets selected and plays so good.

I don't think he'll get selected.

Due to lack of continuity, Patton has gone past him.

Almost guaranteed to have been discussed prior as a non talking point so they dont spoil the debut surprise.

Then said something about needing to show explosiveness to earn another contract. Couldn't hear the details because the mrs chose that exact moment to have a coughing fit.

have to make a comment on this - the guy has been playing in a team getting beaten badly most weeks even with our top ruck Longer who was beaten by Soldo so any ball he gets will have to be scavenged in congested play so the kids chances of showing his best would be zero , so getting 30 odd touches is huge - Paton and Goddard have to come in as well - if not I'll join the sack Richardson bandwagon as well.

Unfortunately can’t see three debutants at once...coaching panel much too conservative. Hope I’m wrong.

It is but presumably you’d think there is genuine merit to it if he’s going on TV and saying it and after his performance in the weekend as well as over a months worth of footy under his belt you’d have to think this is it...

I think this is a very good point. In many ways Richardson is in a no-lose situation if Freeman is selected.

If Freeman plays well the coach can rightly say he was picked when he was ready and that it was unfair to play the lad prematurely. If he doesn’t play well the coach can say he was duty bound to look at him at the top level and that it was reward for effort after all his setbacks.

I haven’t watched enough of Freeman to know whether he should be played or not. But we are at a point where we need to see whether more of our list can surprise and cut it at senior level. Sometimes you just have to take the punt and throw people in at the deep end in order to find out.

One game won’t definitively tell us this, but if Freeman plays well then he’s probably worth persevering with for a little longer. Perhaps the same can be said for Goddard, but I haven’t seen enough of him either to criticise any selection decision.

Watched a bit last night. He seems to have become a bit of a Sam Mitchell where he doesn't run with the footy a lot, more just links up with handballs and kicks. I can understand what Richo is saying when he says he needs to back his body and take the game on. Just needs to see if it works at least.

Still want him to play this week btw.
