It's been a difficult thread to moderate, with discussion about the trade itself, what we gave up, who we could have got, bringing up the fact Aish and Treloar too ditched their own sides, not sure how Cloke entered the discussion though. :drunk:
Pft, harden up. If you want to talk about digressions, this Freeman thread has nothing on the one over at the Pies board. I'm pretty sure the poor mods over there have just decided to give up and let it discuss Uzbekistani politics if that's where it goes.

I reckon Karimov is a shoe in for another term.

Mind you its not like they have a lot of opposition, but he's probably a better prospect than Trump.

Apologies if I've indulged bullshit on the thread. I just find the Pies fans to be quite hypocritical on this one, apart from the obvious classy ones. End of the day a trade was made and surely we all just hope he gets out on the park soon. I've got high hopes personally and great trust in the recruiters and meds. Go saints!!!

There's one or two who are still a bit salty, which you'll get in any supporter base. Most of us just remain skeptical about Nate's prospects of returning to genuine full fitness. We've all heard the old '2-3 weeks', 'we're being super conservative', 'he could play if we needed him to' lines so many times that we've become a bit jaded.

Odd that you'd be skeptical of a player that your club offered a good contract to.

I think skepticism is the natural response when you've seen him on the injury list for by far the best part of two years.

Your investment in him is based on the idea that you can manage his injuries better than we did. Our offer to him, I gather, was based on the idea that we had learned something from our failures.

Well whatever you offered him doesn't matter. You wouldn't offer money to a guy unless you thought he would actually play.

I was skeptical of Jesse Whites deal too. Club recruiting departments are not infallible.

You can have doubts on new recruits but when a club offers a new contract you know they see a future in them.

Yep. Doesn't necessarily mean I do though!

As I've said, good luck to the kid, and I hope he does come good, but I wouldn't be betting on it.

Don't be fooled, Collingwood saw a future in Freeman, you could hear how salty Balme was when he rejected Collingwood and wanted to be traded.

Freeman is getting all the help he needs, it's a waiting game, and we have plenty of time, he's 20 remember.
If he can't get 100% power over time then they have told him we will remodel his game and initially play him as a half forward.

I agree that Freeman is a long shot. I just think the odds are stacked against him. A speculative high risk high return trade.

Jesse White was always a fringe GOP. The only thing going for Freeman is lack of exposed form. I would take the handball receive theory with a pinch of salt. GAJ was a soft outside player who became the best player in the comp. So, players do change and improve. In no way, I am comparing Freeman to GAJ though - just an analogy.

So, given that he is such an outside chance, I think Pies should be happy to get a rd 2 pick for him.

In any case, we'd probably know how it is turning out by the end of 2016.

No, but I have several friends who do, who are as skeptical as I am.

Why would two AFL clubs offer 300k a season to a bloke that won't play? There's a reason why all these tests have been done.

they should be spending more time rehabbing Clokes kicking style - needs to start again
My personal friends who happen to be physiotherapists should spend time rehabbing Cloke's kicking style???

Ok...

Pretty much sums up how I feel about it. If Nate comes good you guys got a potential bargain. If he doesn't, we did well to get a second rounder for him.

In terms of his game style, he's certainly more of an outside runner as it stands. He does have the potential to become a more complete player if he can develop his inside game. He certainly has the right build for it.

Pretty sure I've already said that both clubs must have felt they could get him right. I'm not sure why you seem to think I have to drop all my skepticism because of that.

It was a joke - not a very good one yep.

Back to Freeman - Saints supporters acknowledge he is risk, if another club picked him up the analysis would not be as critical. I agree we should know how he is tracking by the end of this year but as Richo has said he is here for a career not round 1 and that is not a criticism of the Pies.

I have faith in our recruiters and realize you have seen him injured for a long period of time but if we have reward over the next 3-4 years we will e very happy
