never said trust them they know what they are doing .... like most coaches Richo has his favorites the guys he puts a higher level of trust in to perform a role for him ... this is his main flaw as a coach his consistant trust in guys that dont deliver on what we need .. i know for a fact this issue is exactly the reason for frustration in some of the assistant coaches .. but as a strong assistant they should be able to influence the coach to not "play favourites " i think the new guys coming in will push that envelope and drive the standards higher.. for lack of a better term the new assistants will help Richo become less Richo ...

It’s not just Richo it is the whole bloody structure.

Suggest you read Drake’s post about our alliance with Sandringham.

I’ll give a little one , he mentions about one Whom I have watched in action.

This is a development coach folks in a previous game I have attended , Quarter time .

“How are you feeling “is said to the group that is it

Speechless

Listening to Freezer now. Such a good kid.
Just feel really bad that he was dropped for "team balance" in a season that was worse than a complete write-off anyway.
3, 4 games to finish with...what would it have cost the club to give the kid a run at it.
Good luck to him whatever he does from here.

Freezer and Goddard delistings puzzle me. With a list as strapped for talent as ours I'd have thought we'd keep two of our better performed VFL players. Who knows maybe one of them will get rookied...

Don't worry though everyone Armo, Weller, Gilbert, Newnes and Geary are all safe! :D
all stars who haven't reached their ceiling. Freeman and Goddard obviously not much room left for improvement. they've had their turn

I think I’m done. 31 years as a saints supporter and this is the straw. This year is one thing, but we’ve lost before, saints supporters are resilient and patient but the lack of communication and direction, the lack of acknowledgement of the previous message and now this delisting with, yet again, no communication on the why. I’m not even angry, I expect this sort of stuff from us now. I was raised to believe you stick with the club you pick, it’s your curse but I have no love for this club anymore, I have no care for it. Don’t know if I can be assed with another club and I’m sure if we turn it around in my lifetime and win a flag I’ll be happy for them but I don’t think I can be bothered with whatever other crap will come before that.

Good ki

Spoke well- sounds like a good kid. Good luck to him.

Freeze on SEN
Classy, articulate and level headed young man with no apparent animosity to the club... in fact grateful for the support over the past few years.

He read the tea leaves but is still obviously disappointed and feels he has more to give, but understands the club’s concern with his body etc.

As a Saints supporter himself, he still loves the club and will always continue to support it and wishes them everything of the best for the future.

Is hopeful he can get a rookie spot somewhere, but knows he has done everything he possibly could have done to have a career.

:(

Think he'll need to ply his trade in the VFL for a quality few years and with continuity/form before he'd ever get looked at again.
He seemed optimistic on Sen, but I can't see it working out for him.
I guess 5 years of afl wages -3 at 500k ;).....{insert Chris mayne joke here} will help him along in whatever path he chooses.

Two more points from me.

It's like throwing someone out of rehab after a bad accident when they are just learning to walk again. The reason offered being, "Sorry mate you're not running fast enough."

Secondly no matter where you sit on the issue it's a sh*t PR exercise.

Why single the guy out as 'first man down'.

Why not issue the names in groups of three or four, whatever. No, not for us. We'll single Freezer out and at the same time time throw a wet blanket over our only feel good story of the year. We could have told him privately without going public till we were ready to shaft more players.

Do we get anything right ? Other clubs must laugh at us with the unprofessional way we go about things.

We didnt single Freeman out - the media did.

I can't take you seriously if you honestly think a 19 possession debut game for a kid, stuck into a dysfunctional team like ours "proves" he doesn't have what it takes as a midfielder. Hell, that's been par for the course for many of our midfielders this year. Pretty impressive that Nathan matched it in his first game fighting the demons that were no doubt going around in his head. You can't honestly have expected anything more than that from him.

He may not have had the explosive pace he once had but he had but what was impressive about his year is that he was building and had re-invented himself into a consistent 30 plus possession midfielder without his pace and with a bung shoulder. That shows great footy smarts and definitely something to persist with after another pre-season.

And Newnes spell of half a dozen games or whatever it was without a tackle was the issue when he was playing as a mid early in the year ,not possessions. But while we are at it he had many games poorer than Freeman as well when he was a mid.....

Double-standards again at play. A complete back-flip on a player we had been told had the talent that we should invest in long-term. And a sudden de-listing. And people wonder why a lot of us are frustrated.

he doesn't mate, 12 of those 19 disposals were handballs. the most kicks he has had is 9.

i dont know why you can't see the obvious that he's just not that good. he's been in the system for 5 years, has lost the pace he had that got him drafted. played two games, most kicks he had was 9. he if played for another club, you would be laughing about how long it took them to realise he was a bust/why they offered him a 3 year deal.

again like i said the club has the GPS data that we don't get to see. they see the behind the goals vision around how well he is moving.

i bet in 5 years time he'll be talked about in the same way we talk about tom ledger now. he just isnt that good.

This. The hysteria is mildly amusing.

Freezer went pick 10 in his draft largely because of his freakish athleticism (mainly his speed, but also his rare speed/endurance combo), not because he was dominating games on his footy ability- he wasn't racking up huge numbers, wasn't winning a huge amount of CP's or clearances, his kicking wasn't anything special and he wasn't kicking loads of goals- so if he ever lost that speed (as he looks to have done) he was always likely to be up against it, and that's proven to be the case.

He was probably only given a senior game out of goodwill, as it's not like he was dominating games at VFL level and it also sounds like he wasn't really running both ways, which doesn't help his cause.

At least he got to live out his dream and play senior AFL footy, and if he's good enough then hopefully another club will give him a shot.

As for how much money we've spent on him, that's basically irrelevant, as we had to spend that cap space on someone, and what we paid him wasn't much more than the average AFL wage, so it's no huge biggie.

We took a punt and gave it a serious shot and it hasn't worked out. Unfortunate, but life. We all move on.

this. its mind boggling how people can't see it.

its god damn obvious he isn't AFL standard

Really strange decision this.
Would like to hear the reasons from the club.

Finally got his body right, thought he was serviceable in his 2 games, clearly a step above VFL level.

Hopefully you or somebody rookies him.
Hey mate, will you pop back in here if you get any juicy Saints goss this offseason?
