Jason Cripps is a similar example, had chronic hamstrings and lost a lot of power, ended up only playing 50 games. I think we'd all take 50 games from the young fella at the moment.
Very negative Brian.

50 games would be a fail IMO.

I was as sceptical as the next guy and am prone to jumping to sky falling set positions but this is pretty much about what I expected when he was pulled from VFL. While there is nothing serious there is still hope for him. Got to meet him at the jumper presentation and he's a really good kid, hope he gets a go at it.

With his history the question is why did we trade for him?
Because he has alot of talent. Because if we get him right then we effectively got a top 10 pick for a 2nd rounder.

Shaun B at the hawks was about to have his leg fall off when they traded for him, i think he missed the first half of 2010 with the same injury. Look at him now....

Cripper was having such bad sciatic nerve cramps he couldn't get up off the floor, I wrecked my back and had something similar for a few months when I was young it is worse than hammies. I talked to him about it once and he was saying it was his back he didn't mention hamstrings.

I like to think realistic to where he is at the moment? If he gets to 50 games it may take 5-7 years, he's never going to play 20 games a season I wouldn't think? Would be stoked if he plays 50.
I want him to play 200+

Rioli/Wood/Higgins are all examples of turning it around chronic injury wise.

I have faith.

You're not comparing someone who has played 3 and a half VFL games in 3 years to someone who was a 157 game AFL premiership player are you? It makes no sense to anyone except Freeman to guarantee himself some coin for this trade to have happened.

Yeah and what about Smith/Cripps/Gumbleton ect? It's just as easy to name players who have failed from hamstring injuries as players that have come back from them.

so we should all just expect the worst then?

Not sure what difference it makes about how many games they have played. My comparison was that if someone who was apparently finished and cooked can come back and be the player he is now.WHy cant Freeman become something still?

Maybe you would of preferred Daniel Menzel? or Shaun Higgins looks like a great example right now.

The point is, he is here for 3 years. We will get him right

He told me he sometimes vomited because of the pain. My comparison to Cripper is in regards to him not realising his potential because of his hammies.
Amazingly he had a dodgy heart all along and it was never picked up, shocking for him!

Yeah we were comparing war stories and both said if you could have got up you would have topped yourself to stop the pain. Didn't remember the hamstrings for him. Anyway was it Josh Toy had a dodgy heart and got through all the testing and medicals only to find he could have died at any point. Had to retire in his late teens. And thats in the modern era.

Have you ever done hamstring curls and when you get up you have that almost tickly type feeling in your hamstrings? Hamstring "awareness" is essentially a mixture of feeling fatigue and tightness. You can flex and extend your leg no worries but you have a general feeling in the muscle group. If you've ever done a hamstring you'll know what I'm talking about as you'd have felt it at some stage in your rehab. As Freeman was missing a game due to the bye they would have (I assume) put him through a pretty tough session to get high intensity loads into him. It just means his hamstrings weren't happy with the load so they'll drop him back to recover and build him back up. The scan was negative. It's not ideal but I'm essentially no less confident that he will be a player at the Saints.

Again, all of those players have been able to get onto the park, freeman has not.
It was a bad trade, call me a pessimist or whatever you please but it was a bad move by the club.

not sure why there is so much pressure on the club and Freeman to even play VFL in the 1st half this year, 2 years of chronic injury and we all expect him to be fixed just by pulling on a red white and black jumper, jee you lot make no sense at times. re occurring injury always provides mental boundaries. Nath has plenty of time, stop busting his ass, or shit canning the club. this place is so negative atm.

Was the scan negative ?

Josh was someone with a slow heart from what I understand, it didn't allow him to play at a high intensity or something like that? Coaching kids now and playing in the Essendon league.
pretty sure thats close to the mark BS! i remember him being an all action midfielder and they said his heart wouldst cope at the intensity of being a midfielder at AFL level.

So he had some DOMS?

Menzel missed something like 1000 days or something ridiculous. Higgins missed the majority of a couple of seasons.
When Freeman gets on the park, you will be glad we made this trade. We just need to support him and put the work in.
