Nathan is no different physically today than what he was this time last week. His hamstrings are fine, he just felt slight tightness but scans revealed absolutely no issues. He did his running components at training this week at around 75%.
It's almost like Richo saying he won't play senior footy this year is to try and relieve some pressure/supporter expectation from him.

Perhaps internally senior footy was never going to happen this year for Freeman? Or am I clutching at straws?

Can anyone remember anyone else having this much trouble with hamstrings in the AFL?

Shaun Higgins were well stuffed. I think Hamish Hartlet had massive issues too. That's recently. Rob Harvey one from a while back.

I don't think any have missed as much footy as Freeman though. Have hamstring injuries ruined anyone's careers?

Josh Cowan probably similarly bad. It took him 5 years or something like that.

Unsure if it's ruined careers. I'm sure it has.

My mail is that Freemand told the doc that he couldn't feel his hammies...

Doc told him it was because they cut off his hands by accident during the operation.

Meanwhile in Southern Italy, the locals prepare a new batch of synthetic hamstrings for Dr Dankorio's Anti Twanging Clinic in Brunswick (Melb)

I bet his glad he isn't at Collingwood, he'd be playing this weekend and they'd be on their way to ruining his afl career like they've done to scharenburg

When it comes to a player with "unlimited time" to recover, so to speak, then I would probably be as precautionary. However, without such luxuries, then one would certainly prefer to are presented with a case of soreness after prolonged high intensity use of the muscle, rather than the acute onset that I alluded to.

Typically, soreness after a prolonged session will be more chemical in nature (lactic acid and other metabolites) and therefore no damage may have occurred, and even if there was to be some damage, it would be minimal. However, acute onset soreness after a given movement will almost always mean direct tissue damage, which isn't ideal for anyone, and definitely not what is wanted for someone with a history such as Freeman's.

Running laps would actually be ideal for hamstring recovery, as it's something that can be modulated very easily (i.e the speed that you run at; more speed means greater force generated by the hamstrings). Running will be introduced during rehabilitation and gradually increase in duration and intensity, just prior (and in conjunction with) higher loading of resistance, which will then be followed by "specific movements" which are tailored to the athlete (so, for a footballer, would involve sprinting from a standstill, bending over at pace, changing directions etc)[/QUOTE,

Thanks for that. Much clearer now. Cheers

I think getting his body right has always been main goal. He's had one genuine (but minor) set back since he arrived so it's going well in my opinion.
I know what was said this morning but im just keen for Nathan to get to senior VFL footy at this stage. If he plays consistent, good footy from there then who knows? I think the club just wants everybody to give Freezer space and let him go through what he needs to.

A. Hamill- 2 weeks.
Hilarious.

No really, one of the funniest, wittiest, most original comments ever to have been posted here.

You should take your routine on the road.

Dude, it's a running gag - they're not meant to be original. Didn't you ever watch 'Allo 'Allo? :)

My wife is always complaining about needing more freezer space, so I know how the club feels.

That's an extremely weird way for the club to behave considering his hamstrings apparently fine and we're just being cautious.

Richo's announcement is the best thing for this thread.

Of course we all want to see Freezer fit and playing well but this should allow the club to just get him right without feeling the need to provide updates every 5 mins.

It will also remove the media's ability to create nothing click-bait articles aimed at Collingwood fans.
