I think you'll find it was very much a money factor. 300k is good good money for a kid who hasn't played a game and by all reports Collingwood wasn't close to that unless he played. With Alan Richardson pretty much saying he won't play at all in 1/3 of his contract then you can see why he took the safe $$$$.You don't see many players leave a club after their first contract unless they are from interstate and there's a go home factor or big $$$ (Boyd). So for Freeman to walk out on Collingwood based on neither of the factors above being relevant, really says a lot about the current environment of both clubs. For those trolls that want to pot Freeman and the Saints, remember that. Will he be bust? Who knows. All we do know is he'll never play for Collingwood so it's time for pies supporters to except it and move on.

A factor? Of course. I'd also think a young kid wishing to fulfill his lifetime dream of playing AFL footy was also a factor. Perhaps he wasnt confident this would be realised sticking with a club that he & his family lost confidence in rehabilitating his injuries, hence wanted a fresh start?

Can you elaborate on how Collingwood managed to devise a way to sneakily give Berg 2 ACL injuries? Because I'd really love to hear it.I bet his glad he isn't at Collingwood, he'd be playing this weekend and they'd be on their way to ruining his afl career like they've done to scharenburg
My left testicle looks like Mount Rushmore. Just sayin...
He's had no issues with his feet since his draft year. He was also diligent enough in his rehab to be playing football within about 9 months of his first reco. His second reconstruction was on his opposite knee. It wasn't a recurrence caused by mismanagement. He's got stuffed feet too, he's like getting hold of Phar lap and finding his legs were made of glass. Sharon Berg would have been an absolute gun if he hadn't been mismanaged.
And i thought you were just here for comical relief. Nice post doc. Well saidI think the 46 touches and a goal in 3/4 in the Development League 2 weeks ago answers the "why" in regards to Freeman's recruitment.
Just have to hope he can overcome/grow out of his hamstring issues.
Anyway, I see no point in making negative comments about the kid or about the club's decision to trade for him. He's our player now and the relevant pick is not. We desperately need him to succeed.
These setbacks are a real test of his resolve and we need to encourage the lad.
Unfortunately, if he read some of the doom and gloom on these forums he'd really start to doubt his future [emoji853]

He's already played 4 games at AFL senior level. At least it's moving slowly upwards, hopefully once it gets above his groin we might get to see him play.

I may not have the full context of this comment but this would have to be one of the dumbest calls I've seen.
Absolute majority of saints posters are sensible and have great points but this post taken on it's own is complete bullshit

400% more games played than our other first round pick from that draft! He's killing it then, I retract all my previous statements.
400% more games played than our other first round pick from that draft!
Technically that's incorrect because 400% of zero is zero.
Thank you mr pedantic!Technically that's incorrect because 400% of zero is zero.
No. Infinity more as Freeman hasnt played a game so it cant be measured.400% more games played than our other first round pick from that draft!
Oh look a filth purple fan.Yep, Riewoldt, McCartin.....
Yep, Riewoldt, McCartin.....
As much as our medical and rehab teams are maligned, when it comes to knee reconstructions I have a lot of confidence in our process. In fact, I can't remember the last time a player from Collingwood had an ACL graft fail. (Both Macaffer and Berg did their opposite knees).No. Infinity more as Freeman hasnt played a game so it cant be measured.
The way your club ruins careers it will be his only four games.
The peanut takes purple as gospel apparently. Thats what we are dealing with when knuckle daggers infest our board. What have we done to them?
