So we have had a minor strain, awareness and now tightness, which is more severe in spin speak, tightness or awareness?

You don't remember Buckley's comments before the trade going through? something along the lines of Freeman's problems not being Collingwood and suggesting that they will follow him. The stories coming out about Freeman being unhappy with Collingwood's management. It was obviously an untenable situation, he was leaving Collingwood one way or another.

As for the draft pick, the obvious answer to your insultingly facetious hypothetical is zero. If we had a crystal ball and knew who we were going to pick I could ask you how many games that players has played at any level this year, the answer is probably more than 1. At this stage we are dealing with a player who has not been able to get onto the park in any meaningful way for his first three seasons. The chances of a top 10 pick becoming a premiership quality player is no given, but I would agree that it is more likely than a pick in the mid 20's. The chances of a top 10 pick who hasn't put together a solid month of football since being drafted is probably significantly less likely than a second round pick.

As for the moneyball reference, it would seem to me that the club thought they had found some damaged goods, that if they were able to fix, would see them get a quality player for a far cheaper price than it would usually cost. I have no issues with taking a risk, I don't mind holding onto a list spot for a player of Freeman's potential... the issue is we paid the seller's price when there were a lot of factors which would usually tip things in the buyers favour.

I love the way we have been building our list, but last season's trade week was the first time in a few years that I thought we under performed at the trade table.

Totally agree at last years trade Ameet had his pants pulled down that far he lost them. Ameet has been great for the club but I doubt 2015 trade period will go down as his finest....but he will recover!

I reckon as much as we all loved the insights coming from the recruiting team, I think they showed their hand early and let the Pies and Bombers know how desperate we were. We lost any bargaining power. I think the Carlisle suspension made the trade period worse, if he'd played a few exceptional games no one would care.

Buckley felt it was a mental issue but i suspect its his miss understanding of what seems to be a chronic pain issue.
Freeman may be feeling pain that isn't related to new damage and then insinctively protecting the area putting himself at risk of re-injury.
Saints will be patient and work with him give him excises and work on his biomechanics but if he isn't playing regularly by mid 2017 they will have to just say the pain is a crossed wire in your nervous system you need to ignore it until it stops if you want an AFL career

We can criticise this trade till the cows come home, but the fact is we have Nathan, he is now a Saint, we just have to wait and see. Impatient Saint you are going to have to learn some!
Coming on now and saying " I told you so, we lost the trade" etc etc is really irrelevant.

What I do say, however, is that because we did take a calculated
gamble, and we are unsure whether it will pay off, I don't believe this is the time to be talking about taking JOM.

The club is hopeful that this setback is very minor at worst (like his last one).
I understand supporters frustration, I'm frustrated too but we need to remember the club expected set backs with Freezer this year and we didn't expect him to be playing senior footy.
The club knew it was a long road with him, hence the three years. If Nathan is still having hamstring issues this time next year then let's start the doom and gloom and talk of busts then.

MG you are not writing politicians campaign speaches.

There is no way the club expected this many set backs, the same as they didnt plan for Carlisle not to be available this year. The fact that he wont play AFL this year (if at all) is a major concern and very poor forward planning IMO. Particularly given the resources going into a single player who has proven absolutely zip at AFL level in 3 years.

So sorry MG your company line explanation doesnt wash - the simple fact is if you cant run you cant play!

I don't see the big issue, we were told he wasn't going to play AFL this year so it's not like we have lost a gun player. See what happens in the future, if he plays great, if not, it's cost us a late 20's pick, no big deal.
I think the issue with the fans is that he's not even playing reserves reserves footy on a consistent basis & hasn't put 2 games together since the 3.5 games he played for Pies reserves last year before injuring the tendon again.

Sure it's a management thing, but the average punter out there just sees Freeman not playing any footy at any level due to these setbacks & jumps to conclusions

The club never expected Freeman to play senior footy this year, it was no secret that this year was all about recovery/biomechanics/conditioning. I'm sure that even Richo has mentioned that. Ridiculous to suggest it's a poor recruitment decision 10 games into his first season.
Like I said if he's still having hamstring issues this time next year then I'll start to be really concerned.

I for 1 aren't jumping to conclusions, my concern is it's such a long way from not being able to string 2 Dev squad games together to AFL level it's going to take every bit of another 2 1/2 years to get there

The one before Christmas was more a genuine medium tear, the previous one was just some tightness/awareness. The club are hopeful this setback is the same, but won't know until later tomorrow.
So as of right now, he's only had one tear in his hamstrings, so it's nowhere near a disaster.

I hardly think its ridiculous because its not 10 games its 2 1/2 years he has been in rehab! Also if the club recruited him knowing he wouldnt play this year, then they are more incompetent than I have given them credit for...

MG I suggest you start becoming concerned....
