I understand that but he's been rehab-ing the same injury for 2.5yrs regardless of who's list he was on. The way some people have posted on this thread make out like Collingwood deliberately injured him & sabotaged his career. I'm pretty certain the Pies would love him to be running up & down the wings for them just as much as we want him to do so for us
Hit the nail on the head here. I take no glee in Freeman's predicament, but jeez, there's some eerily familiar posts here to what was seen on the Collingwood forums for nearly two years. After the initial injury we had a season of setbacks, then a strong preseason, then tightness complaints after a few VFL games, surgery, then another season of 'setbacks'. It would be funny if it wasn't so damaging to the kids career.
I know the popular rhetoric here is that Collingwood was reckless, but we essentially didn't risk playing him for 90% of the two years he was with us. We took a conservative approach with him, even if he thinks we didn't.
I'm not sure what St Kilda are doing differently in regards to his rehab, but it's got to be very worrying for their fitness staff that the pattern of the past two years seems to be continuing despite their best efforts.

I remained positive after the last setback but gee this one stings a bit, lets hope it is indeed just minor tightness. The frustrating thing is even if it is just tightness he won't come under consideration for selection for at least a couple of weeks again now, starting to have doubts now that he will even play a VFL senior game this year.

Having said that, we gave up a late 20's draft pick for him which isn't a huge price, it was worth the risk whether or not he makes it IMO.

Chill people. Remember Roos hammies? And Fisher and Gilbert's chronic injuries a few years back? They came good. Freeman has been on our list for about 6 months and came with injury issues. At least give it another 12 months before writing this off.

Hey

I hardly think its ridiculous because its not 10 games its 2 1/2 years he has been in rehab! Also if the club recruited him knowing he wouldnt play this year, then they are more incompetent than I have given them credit for...

MG I suggest you start becoming concerned....

He has been at St Kilda for 10 games mate.
The club is incompetent? Has recruiting Freeman has cost us this years premiership?

MG you are not writing politicians campaign speaches.

There is no way the club expected this many set backs, the same as they didnt plan for Carlisle not to be available this year. The fact that he wont play AFL this year (if at all) is a major concern and very poor forward planning IMO. Particularly given the resources going into a single player who has proven absolutely zip at AFL level in 3 years.

So sorry MG your company line explanation doesnt wash - the simple fact is if you cant run you cant play!
Thank goodness you know what the club was expecting, as opposed to some mug... who's shown he's an ITK... er...

Does it matter if he doesn't play vfl seniors this year though? This year was always about conditioning, any senior action was always doubtful, even at VFL level. I don't think his progress would be a big surprise for anyone at St Kilda.

EDIT: I just realised I'm only following half the conversation here. There is A LOT to be said for the Ignore button. Shades of Big Mart?

I'd say his problems are less severe, less risky and more likely to be overcome than those of O'Meara, and there's still some who would be happy to hand over a first rounder for the Sun.

It's not ideal, but it's also a long way from being over.

Increasingly looking like the Jesse W. Smith recruitment. Wouldn't be surprised if Freeman pulls the pin before the end of year, contract or not.

Do people really think we are going to pinch a flag from GWS if we dont take risks like we have done with freeman

We are so far back that we have to go through uncharted hazardous territory in the hope we find a quicker way to a flag

Could be even more apt if it was Inpatient Saint [emoji12]

I love how a number of posters/ supporters swallow everything the ITK's suggest, just like they do with the AFL & club.

So now its good footballing business to recruit a player who they know is not going to play this year and pay him an exorbitant amount to rehab.

Freeman has never played a game, who knows if he will be any better than Saunders. If he was a proven AFL player it would be reasonable, but not someone who may never play its far too big of risk!

Really do feel for the kid. Seems like one of the more nicer guys in the game with his body just not letting him stand up to the demands of the game.

Hopefully it's not a strain or a tweak but rather precaution more than anything.

So far odds are not looking in his favour of making it unfortunately.

Hey Impatient Saint, you seem really really smart in hindsight. Cant recall you warning us about Freeman when we first signed him up. How about you give us some big bold predictions about the rest of our season, which players are likely to improve and what we'll do at the draft/trade table..hmmmm..

Exactly, we took a risk which is required.
Freeman is a potential game changer.

Does a second rounder (wherever that is after compos, etc) have as much a chance of being a game changer as freeman. Chances are they would be a serviceable player, but we have a bunch of those already and will have more to come, not hard to come by. Losing one of these players is just the stakes for gaining a star. Pretty good if you ask me.

Totally agree at last years trade Ameet had his pants pulled down that far he lost them. Ameet has been great for the club but I doubt 2015 trade period will go down as his finest....but he will recover!

Right, Carlisle and Gresham for 5 and 25 was terrible was it? They will be 2 starting 18 players for us round 1 2017.

As for the 2nd rounder for Freeman. You'd rather Spencer White or Nathan Wright on the list? Because all 2nd rounders always turn into superstars don't they..

Coz he won't get on the park often enough / hamstring issues

Daniel Menzel
Anthony Morabito
Alex Johnson

Geez wonder why these blokes don't just pull the pin too?

Freeman will do everything possible to get his body right in his 3 year contract.

Hasn't Carlisle got 2 weeks club suspension to serve next year?
