I'm at this point feeling like he'll end up like the number 10 before him; always a few weeks away, a solid VFL performance away before snap twang down he goes again.

I was a huge supporter of getting him in and wanted to get one over Collingwood but unless we see some form of progress before the year is out what will have happened this year?

1 great VFL ressies game

Pulled from another game

3 varying reoccurrences of the injury

One big cloud over his progress.

It feels like he's not moved forward in the slightest it's like pushing a car up a hill it goes a quarter of the way then rolls back. Needs something positive to happen before the years out to give supporters any hope for a future where he plays AFL football

I think we need to lay the blame squarely where it lies: ourselves. Once we sponsored him, the poor bugger didn't stand a chance.

We have form.
Pretty sure Barry Brooks was getting sponsored when i first started visiting the site.

Maybe we could sponsor an opposition player?

Have we sent him to the calves blood injection specialists in Germany yet?

And if we havent, why not?

RORS you are the medical specialist - what are the chances of Nathan getting over his issues and becoming a consistent AFL Player, percentage wise?

Looking at this years draft there is going to be some very handy players available around what would have been our 2nd pick. I wonder if that 'hidden gremlin' of St Kilda recruiters believing they can turn others failures
into gold has struck again? The club has been giving away dratt picks for duds for as long as the system has been in place - why should we believe any different in Nathan's case?

No idea. Dont know enough about how unique Nathan's injury really is. The reported nerve pain would suggest an issue with the sciatic nerve as it runs through the hamstring musculature, but it may not be that at all & could be an problem originating from the surgery he had to repair the hamstring tendon when he pinged it. I couldnt say which without knowing more.

Stating the obvious here, but he could either go like Max Rooke & be an important player for a number of years, or he could go like Mark Coughlan & have chronic hamstring & other related injuries destroy his career

I'd be inclined to have him visit the specialists in Germany, then give him 6-12 months off from any football & see if his own body can do some healing without the constant rehab & training

I feel pain just reading that word.

Over potentially some, what, 200ish senior games, our sponsored player have played less than the 10?

Interesting that Richo is saying that he could come back through the VFL seniors rather than the Dev League.

INJURY-PRONE St Kilda recruit Nathan Freeman could return to football as soon as next week as he recovers from yet another hamstring setback.

Freeman has lined up in two VFL reserves games this season, but was re-injured after both of those matches.

"It could be as early as next week. We're not sure. He's still got a few boxes he's got to tick," Saints coach Alan Richardson said at a club function on Friday.

"There's some top-end speed running that he's got to get through."

Richardson flagged the possibility that Freeman could return through the VFL rather than the development league.

"It depends a little bit on numbers, given the agreement that we have with Sandringham. There's only a certain amount of players that we can play," the coach said.

"If the numbers allow us to play him, there's a chance that he'll come back in (through the VFL), but that's something that we'll discuss."
