Not good news:

All I can tell you is he injured his hamstring again a few weeks ago. Sorry for the dramatic broken down comment, but how else would you describe another significant hamstring injury that sees him out of action for 4 weeks?

Freezer is never going to play for us is he.
If he re-injured it when they upped the tempo and so-on at the Geelong camp it's certainly not a good sign of how he would handle the increased speed and physical demands of senior AFL footy if he ever gets a go there.

He's very up against it.

If he can play VFL and his body holds up the step up to AFL won’t change anything.

The physical demands and speed at AFL level are much greater than they are at VFL level tho, so I'm not sure what you're basing that comment on other than blind hope.

He will need to debut this year or he won't be offered another contract, that much is clear. Though I hope with all my heart that his fortunes change, it just seems like his hamstrings just aren't up to it. And even if he were to play, I'd be surprised if he still retained the explosive speed that made him a top ten pick.

Still a chance to make something of it this year pessimists.
If he never plays, I'm still glad the club took a chance and gave this kid an opportunity.

Worst case scenario, we lost a draft pick, a few picks prior to the one we got Battle with. You would only assume they would have used it on him. So basically lost nothing.
No risk no reward.

If your fit enough for AFL and playing VFL your still playing the same brand yourself. Pushing to contests running to space tackling running with the ball. If he’s ready to go he’s ready for either level.

I can't believe we may never see our great warrior Freezer in action for us Tyrian
He was to be our savior......

Never mind my lady, I'm here for you ;)

Lost nothing if we'd used that pick on Battle?

So even if we'd done so (which is no guarantee, especially with the highly rated Rotham going just before we picked Battle) are you assuming that we would have then passed with the pick that we did get Battle with (pick 39), only to then use pick 56 as we did, to get Phillips?

That seems extraordinarily unlikely, it's also very unlikely that we would have taken Phillips at 39, given that all of the following went between 39 and 56, and all played senior AFL footy last year, unlike Ed: Jack Graham, Mitch Hannan, Tom Stewart, Brennan Cox, Harrison Macreadie, Lewis Young and Jacob Allison (who we bid on at pick 55).

I get what you're trying to say and I for one am not writing him off, but to say we "basically lost nothing" if he is a bust, is a furphy. There looks to have been plenty of talent in that 33-56 range and if we'd had an extra pick at 33 it would have given us another crack at one of them. If not at 33, then most likely at 39.

Hopefully Nath has a good career from now on and it doesn't matter though.

Clubs waste picks every year...
....I don't think anyone's disputing that. But he suggested that it wouldn't be a "waste", if he ends up a "bust", virtually implying that we got him for "free", which is simply not the case, hence my reply. Had he not said something that I considered to be completely false, I wouldn't have responded.

I tend to look at it overall. The net result after taking busts and stars into consideration.

But I agree with you. Comment wasn't directed at you.

I'm not liking his chances but either way it's not like one pick makes or breaks a rebuild. Not many people had him in their current or future best 22's anyway so he was always going to be a bonus if he worked out.

Lost nothing (pick 39),
Rotham (highly rated) was gone.
Jack Graham, Mitch Hannan, Tom Stewart, Brennan Cox, Harrison Macreadie, Lewis Young and Jacob Allison.
Would we have taken one of those 7?
Would we have rated Allison/Graham 15 places higher than where they went?

Is having one of those players on our list worth not taking a risk on Freeman?

Oh I didn't realise you were the truth police.
No we didn't "lose nothing".
I was implying we lost pick 39.
I exaggerated. As have many pessimistic posters. Clutching at straws for something to be upset about.

I think Freeman was worth the gamble.
I doubt missing out on Rategolea, Poholke, Maibaum or even Hannan or Graham, will cost us a future premiership.

He was a risk.
Sometimes they pay off, sometimes they don’t.
I hope he does have an AFL career as I’ve invested some time specifically to watch him.

Daniel Markworth, Spencer White, Nathan Wright, Daniel McKenzie want to know what's the big deal.
Then Nath and Dan say "wait what"?
