Saints hoping Freeman’s debut isn’t far away

St Kilda speedster Nathan Freeman may potentially make his AFL debut in the upcoming 2018 season.

This will mark his first game after being taken by Collingwood at pick 10 in the 2013 national draft.

Freeman who is widely known for his above average speed has been totally backed by coach Alan Richardson stating that “his speed is as high as it’s been in two years” and that he’s “mentally positive”.

“He’s had a really good run at it in the period leading up to Christmas and post-Christmas, so he’ll now join in,” Richardson said.

“He’s in really good shape and mentally he’s still really positive. I’ve never met someone as strong as him mentally.

“I’ve been really impressed by him and I really want him to have a bit of luck … our whole group does. He’s a really popular person and I’m really optimistic for ‘Freezer’ now.”

Richardson went on to add that himself and the playing squad just want Nathan to have some luck, and not be troubled by injury, as has been the unfortunate story for him.

The 22-year-old has been held out of the main group this summer, to complete a specific conditioning program, that was designed to allow him to regain his blistering leg speed and subsequently prevent injury. Richardson is extremely excited at the prospect of Freeman being added to his growing midfield.

“He’s exactly what we think complements the work we’ve already done with our group,” Richardson added.

“We think that we’ve potentially got a really good balance in there, but he’s part of that balance.

“We want him to be part of that balance of inside and outside, the aggressive ball-winners and those who can support that on the outside.

“That’s what he’s here for and we’re really hopeful he gets there.”

The last time the Saints committee were thinking of moving him to the main squad he suffered a severe ankle injury, which only ruled him out for the remainder of the 2017 season. Perhaps his luck will well and truly change for the better.

Freeman will only add to a growing St Kilda midfield, bolstered by Jack Steven and Jack Sinclair.

If Freeman is able to remain match fit for 2018 in its entirety, who knows how far the Saints could go?

So by the sounds of it , if Freezer can show some good touch , he will be put straight into the team

Geary - Austin - Webster
White - Carlisle - Roberton
Sinclair - Steele - Freeman
Gresham - Macartin - Billings
Membery - Bruce - Long

Longer - Ross - Steven

Dunstan / Acres / Newnes / Stevens

emg - Savage / Armitage / Weller

Suggested team = Austin in the team - fast / tall and can play on all key forwards and can add more run compared to Brown. This kid will become a fixture in the team.
Brown is a good stopper and did well last year , but he only had 40 kicks in 22 games ( 2 kicks a game) we need the ball dished out quickly and Austin can do this . Remember he has already played on Hogan a couple times , Patton , Petrie , Cloke and did o'k - so not bad for a young kid who has only played 10 or so games.

White has a great kick and mark , has football smarts and will no doubt be in the best 22

Freeman has as much chance as JOM of being a good player this year - added speed on the wing needed

Long - don't know how he will go , but lets see how he goes in the JLT games we need another Milne

You need to take Billings out of that team - apparently his career is over.

Was in Romania 2 weeks ago on my RTW trip, underrated. The woman are utterly schmick and number one so far, just into Poland however who are contending for that mantle. To keep it on topic I haven't seen Nathan Freeman on my travels
