Of course it would have but in the long run and its a risk he would be ideal for us right now.
Not sure how we could've known that a year after we went for Freeman that JOM would want to be traded. Or are you saying we should've risked both?

Both. Probably not saying should have but it would have been a risk we may have taken.

Having two of our future mids with very heavy injury clouds over them would be risky. Especially the salary JOM would be on.

He chose the Hawks anyway. Did we ever explicitly state we weren't interested in JOM? Who knows maybe we gave it a shot. We definitely had the picks to get it done.

No idea. Just said he would have been nice. In other words i don't think our club should be put off by injury and that is why I'm glad we took the punt on Freeman.

Sadly Freeman wont play a senior game for us you would think but I'm happy with the risk. Maybe we should have taken it with Omeara.

I think he would have cost too much, especially if we got into a bidding war with the Hawks.
I know he is playing now, but with his history I still think he's a risk.
Very happy with the potential of Clark and Coffield at this stage.

No doubt. I'm sure there will be a lot of people keenly watching his career unfold. I hope he comes good but I'm somewhat hopeful that he doesn't experience too much team success throughout his career. :$

the word i hear is we had the inside run for JOM the year earlier and he was happy to come provided the trade could be made .. the GCS held strong cause he was contracted and they didnt want to trade him .. the next year we thought considering he was keen to come the year earlier he would still preference us , then upped and chose the Hawks, we had the offer we had the picks we could have done the deal but he wanted hawthorn and the thought that the flag dynasty would roll on forever ...

Is anyone able to point to the news item which describes this setback?
I saw him running laps on Saturday morning: 3/4 pace and very smooth so the news comes as a bit of a surprise.

It's in the injury report video on the saints website. He mentions it very abruptly. Kind of like he has to tell us but he doesn't want to so gives us the least amount of information possible.

He likely is running free and fine, but as others have said before it can still be weeks before the muscles and tendons are strong enough again to survive the rigors of an actual match.

I heard directly from JOM that Carlton and North were the frontrunners in the Feb.

When I asked about Saints he said "nah'.

We were out really early

yeah i think maybe the fact we couldnt get it done the year earlier and he had to spend another year in GC drew the line through us in his mind - for us we kind of felt it was a done deal once he came out of contract so perhaps we didnt go in as hard as we should have so we were never in the race when it came time that he was getable

I still remember the excitement Round 3 2016 at 3 qtr time, smashing Collingwood and checking my Facebook to see Nathan Freeman had amassed 46 touches in 3 quarters of VFL footy in his first game back.

Such a shame for the young fella, looked an incredible talent in his juniors and I’m glad the club took the risk, as risks need to be taken in this game.

What are people’s thoughts about Nathan’s future? Super Unlikely now he’ll play AFL this year, does the club cut its loses after this year or rookie list him for a season for a fourth crack?

Game over for mine.

Players like Freeman don't grow on trees. Watch his TAC cup highlights and you can see why.. lightening quick, burst away speed and good skills.

Exactly what we need really - glad we took the punt and hope he can string a few AFL games in the second half of 2018.

Should have got Petrucceli in then.

he is the exact prototype for the rookie spot if he does infact not come good this year .. the rookie list is for potential without the risk of having them on the main list ,, Freezer has too much talent to be just cut loose you think he would be worth sticking with for at least one year on the rookie list

Just watched the injury report video and there was no mention of a setback. Said there were "no new injuries" and that Freeman was "7 or 8, may be more, may be less" and that it's dependent on his training.

Hard to say what that means.

If he doesn't play this yr it's hard to say just how much ' top level' talent he actually has?
I mean by then he will be someone who was a highly touted TAC cup player 4 yrs ago:eek:

I hope to god for his sake he can get to debut this yr. Think he'd be delisted if he doesn't.
Must be tuff mentally for the poor bloke.
