Richo didnt want him to get his first game when he did .. he felt his form didnt warrant it but gave it to him as a reward for the persistance of the kid ... the word i hear he was going to miss the Essendon game as they saw that as a risk for him against the pace of the Dons , but his performance against the dogs made it hard to drop him, the Essendon game he played great early but then spent ages on the pine being managed so im not surprised he got dropped .. Richo has this thing about giving the guys a taste then dropping them to build up that ferosity ... its stupid if hes good enough play him if not drop him ... im just glad we didnt bring back Mav

That's taking the glass half full approach St_trav, good on you! I'm still gobsmacked at it though. If he plays VFL this week, I just don't know if I can stay interested anymore. It's getting too hard.

Really , all getting worked up because freezer was dropped, yes dropped not managed as some keep going on about , if he was being managed the club would have said so . We all wanted Freezer to be the gun he was in his junior days but i cant see it happening

nah not really i think its a shithouse reasoning by Richo ... i also think its that type of garbage that see's a few of the guys unhappy with team selection ...

Your making that call after 2 games? after 5 years pretty much out of football?
Bit rough.
Im no guru, so not sure if he will make it or not, but surely a run of 4 games to finish the year will give us a better read than 2 games then out to a seriously underperforming Sandy side.
Lets be honest, Armo aint in our next finals side, either is Newnes based on his form and the fact he has gone backwards seriously over the last 2 seasons, but both continue to play as they are Richo protected species (granted Armo has had a run in the magoos this year a couple times)
LOL & creates the illusion that it has to do with game strategy & selection integrity. Like any of that matters or has applied during this season.

Richo says "squeezed out". While Newnes continues his free ride.

Wow.
To me that release just shows that a few on here are exactly correct, richo is out of his depth and has lost just about all credibility when he comments on strategy cause he has NONE! Oh besides throw Carlisle forward so the opposition can kick 5 or 6 goals in a row on us with a depleted backline already missing our leader down there (Roberton).
The release is due to the backlash the club is getting on social media, here and probably directly via members contacting the club to voice there dismay at the whole season.
Im just about at the L_W_P stage where I wont go to a game again while Richo is making a mockery of the club as our coach.
But then I really think about it and realise that its times like these where we need to rally behind the club and go to games.

No im not using the two games he played , im using all the games he has played since he arrived at the saints . He came to us as a supposed speedster with good kicking skills and of course those Hammies . He used to be that inside outside run and carry link up player and now because of his medical history he has lost his major weapon and thats his speed , now he is just one of the bunch of average midfielders on our list and TBH he is not a great kick either , i have seen him butcher it many times at sandy.
I have nothing against Nathan in any way but if you and everyone else on here wants this club to go up the ladder not down more hard decisions have to be made on players and Nathan is one of them, Id be willing to give him a shot on the rookie list but id say no to a decent contract at this stage ,,,, Sorry

people are overstating freemans game. 14 disposals right? around the same the week before? non existent pressure.

the big problem i have with richo isnt the dropping of freeman, its the reasoning. it stinks. for a side that lacks run but is built on a pressure, selecting two talls is mind bogglingly bad.

richo doesn't see the contradictions in his own selection and i suspect the club doesn't either, given how much they contradict themselves these days

I just can't see any reason to drop him.

He might not have been our best last week, but he wasn't our worst. It's also his 2nd game. Disregard his age, I'm not sure many guys do much better in their 2nd game. I actually reckon he showed some glimpses.

1st game- The handball fwd out of a pack to a guy clear of congestion when everyone else on our list would panic handball to another guy just to offload it

2nd game - That little check kick around the corner last week that openee up play.

2nd game- Reading the play to intercept mark at least twice

He had shown more than enough to go around again. And it's madness that he isn't playing this week.

Yet another selection that just makes zero sense frim a future's perspective
Coaching for the now at a time that should be all about setting us up for next year

"Nathan Freeman is another pretty good example of that, to at least have a look at their game, but you also need to make sure you're rewarding really good form, that we maintain credibility in selection, and they're playing the right way. Hughy ticks all those boxes."

Oh spare us Richo ffs, there is ZERO credibility in your selection every single week. As far as Goddard is concerned, the only reason he's getting a game is because your hand was forced, otherwise you would've left him the VFL while Brown played out the year.

I always got the feeling that he was never really keen to pick Freeman, so it's not a surprise that he yanked him back out ASAP. If Cho survives the axe I won't be shocked if Freezer doesn't get offered a contract. Just my opinion.

as i said before ... i feel they are giving Richo enough rope to do himself in as head coach... the "plan" as explained to us by richo before the dogs game was to throw around some differant variable to start planning for what works next year .... so far i cant see that at all besides moving jake forward and ross and Armo back he hasnt really done anything experimental ... its almost like they are just looking for the end of year and phoning it in for these last games ...
this could get real real ugly on Saturday

Goddard has been crap until recently.

certainly feels that way. the bloke clearly isn't up to it.

what i got told was that the club thought he had a good 2017 despite 8 poor games at the end of the year. they genuinely believed he was good.

i thought last year was a really poor result...

well said and it's not even that really

the selection does not align with anything richo is trying to achieve. richo's game plan does not support the need for talls, if anything its counter productive to what he needs. yet he's playing them in droves.

Our game plan doesn't suit talls yet the few games we have looked okay this year, we have played three talls down back.

we've usually had talls down back, because we looked good in the 3 games does not mean its a good thing

what's been the bigger impact to our games this year, lack of run or lack of height?

i don't see richmond, the side we model our selves on, going tall. they pack the side with runners and tacklers.

Really .

Majority of time he has been put out of the way on the wing , again can play it but not his strength.
Sandringham play Seccull, Myke Cooke , Answerth in the guts before him consistently.
The few times he has been allowed minutes like against Box Hill Hawks he played well.
Good luck impressing in that current set up as Drake has already said that alignment is putrid .

Sandy rusted on guys I know some of them coterie , hate Stkilda in fact they barrack for Melbourne.
great alignment .
Who knows what Stkilda do with Nathan , Goddard , White given development is a disgrace.

I'd say one of our biggest issues this year has been our inability to hit targets or at least put the ball to a team mates advantage.

Regardless of what pathetic undetectable gameplan we are attempting, players should pride themselves in our team keeping possession after they've disposed of the ball.

I know we look better when Carlisle is able to be free of an opponent and utilise his strengths of intercept marking.
Playing one extra down back to give us a good intercepter isnt going to affect our run that much.

And Freeman wasnt offering much run anyway, so his non-selection actually helps us with this lack of run.
