The Dangerfield comparsion isn't fair. He's much shorter than him so physically he isn't going to be able to do the things Danger does. He would be more in the mold of a line breaker with pace.
I'd like to see him, Sinclair and Mooney in the senior team together. Imagine the forward pressure they would put on. CRAZY.

We're going to have a bloody good VFL team in 2014.

Freeman nothing like ricky

As Lou Richards claimed once, "Ricky Barham can do the 100m in 9.1 seconds. He knows a short cut."

We rate him this highly, wow.

Collingwood's recruiting chief Derek Hine says there was "a feather" between the two players the Magpies selected at picks No. 6 and No. 10 in the National Draft.

So what was he saying there? That we wouldn't have grabbed Aishe if he was still there?

Adams and Freeman the cannon ball tag team that both have good beep test results so welcome to the pies Cos i'm free and good luck :-) I think collingwood have the best 100m relay team now, Sinclaire, Mooney, Marsh-a Brady and Cos i'm free.

Watching the Pick Me clip again, he's certainly not lacking in confidence. Would like to think of himself as a senior player in Round 1. Not beyond the realms of possibility, given he has the size and his endurance is reportedly right up there already.

I think it's that combination of physical attributes and confidence that makes him a standout. He's basically as quick as anyone in the draft, he's 85kg and very broad at that, he's got top level endurance and he loves taking the opposition on, burning them off with his blistering pace and always keen to kick a goal.

The knock on his kicking doesn't seem to be a technique issue, he just lacks composure. That can be very much be improved... Once he gets over the fact that he's playing in front of the biggest and best AFL crowds in the land, he'll stop showing off, put his head down and work on his efficiency. Bucks will demand it of him and so will the competition for a senior spot.

I was quite wary last night but seriously guys, we are going to love this kid. He's got excitement machine written all over him and I can't wait to see him cut through opposition midfields at the G.

With the interchange limit looming how can we go wrong with a kid who has ability, speed and a huge tank.
No Brainer with this pick for me.

Lennon is really slow... Like worryingly slow for a guy who is expecting to play as a midfielder/HFF. All around as an athlete he is pretty poor.

Meanwhile, Freeman won the repeat sprints, was 2nd in the 20m sprint and Top 10 in the 3km and the beep test, so he has serious athletic prowess.

exactly

That quote actually refers to the gap between Scharenberg and Aish, not Scharenberg and Freeman.

If you read the whole thing it's pretty obvious: "(It was) pretty well-documented that Matt Scharenberg or James Aish were going to be there and there was really a feather between both of those players and we went for the taller utility type that can fill a need right away"

Poor reporting by the Collingwood website to take our own recruiter's words out of context.

Their's or ours?
Love that we got some pace but concerned about the kicking knock. I've never seen him play so judgement reserved.

His kicking seems fine, it's the options he chooses while running hell for leather that he really needs to work on.

Interesting that there's some comments around about his "in your face" attitude, more so from a purely confident in his own ability point of view than anything, but that's why he dropped down the order a bit also.

The more I watch of him the more I like, he's exactly what we need and along with Broomhead and Kennedy will provide us real pace in our midfield for years to come.

He compared himself to Luke Schuey, I think that's probably the most accurate AFL comparison there is for Freeman.

Hope fully now we will have a dangerous midfield with speed galore.
This team that we are seeing unfold in front of eyes, buckley hopefully will get to the promised land.
So lets see midfielders

Pendles and Swanny Fasolo and Sinclair
Beams and sidey Broomhead and martin- Mooney
Adams and Ball Elliot can play through there
Freeman and weeman I am sure I have missed a few
Seedsman and dwyer

I think with Young sharenberg and toovey in our backline Sinclair and seedsman will play more
midfield time.

Im like the biggest Blair lover on this board and think majority of posters under rate his work. But looking at ALL our recruits this year, even I think he could be in abit of trouble. I hope not, but hes going to want to start kicking regular goals.

When I did a list in my head of the guys I was hoping would be around at pick 10, Freeman was probably my last choice....but that said all the other guys went picks 1-9 anyway so in the end he was a best available selection.

I put him ahead of Lennon and the others because he has some serious weapons that not many have in this draft. Although I don't rate testing that highly, Lennon's was just too poor to put him in top 10 calculations.

The only guy I would've put ahead of Freeman was Sheed. However, I think we had an unspoken agreement with West Coast to let him through.

I'm happy enough with that because we have done 2 magnificent trades with West Coast over the last 2 years. One trade has landed us Grundy and the other has landed us Scharenberg.

As we've seen from Sydney, forging strong trading alliances is very smart.

I also like the scharenberg + freeman combination. One provides versatility and the other provides real weapons.

To coin an old phrase, (Blair) is in more s*** than Flash Gordon. Has been replaced with guys who do his role but have better skills and pace. Blair has been a good battler, but is now depth.

I don't think so. The way I see it, Blair has become a nuggety forward pocket now. Good defensive pressure and good crumber. Great goal sense as well.

Paul Puopolo has cemented his spot playing this exact role. With Fasolo and Elliott up there, we have the pace and X factor. Blair adds some real aggression. I like having him in the team.

I agree though that his spot is not safe. Far from it. I'm all of a sudden much more excited about our small forwards.

I just watched Freeman's highlights and wowweeee I am excited by this kid.. He brings exactly what we lack, speed..Can see him grabbing the pill out of stoppages and kicking to Cloke in a flash before Cloke can be triple teamed..

Kicking is not too bad, sometimes he just jams it on the boot as he trying to get rid of it but i am sure with experience that can be fixed.

All it will take is a couple of those bursts of speed out of the middle or half back, pill in hand, and everyone will be excited about him.

I'm not getting the hate that seems to be coming for this kid. I've watched this age group since under 15's and freeman has always been the standout midfielder for Victoria. He missed under 16's and 17 champs due to family so that probably hasn't helped his publicity but he is the most influential midfielder there was this year, regularly kicks 4+ goals so can't see where that has come from. His kicking isn't poor, recruiters just think it could become vulnerable at AFL level, I disagree as I can see bucks really getting into him about it.
Most people I have talked to had him ranked behind only Martin on who could make the most impact at afl level. And in terms of people saying they'd preferred Lennon, no, just no, he will find it hard to fit into a position, has played as a tall forward all juniors but stopped growing so will have to adjust his game style alot to suit the AFL.
I can quite comfortably say that I have complete confidence in him making a very reliable mid over the years, and with his confidence he wouldn't let ya tell him otherwise anyway.
